COVID-19 has been confirmed in 8,790 people in Kerala on October 28. The district-wise break-up of the affected were Ernakulam 1,250, Kozhikode 1,149, Thrissur 1018, Kollam 935, Alappuzha 790, Thiruvananthapuram 785, Kottayam 594, Malappuram 548, Kannur 506, Palakkad 449, Pathanamthitta 260, Kasaragod 203, Wayanad 188 and Idukki 115.
Twenty-seven deaths have been confirmed as being caused by COVID-19. Thankappan Ashari (80) from Peroorkada, Thiruvananthapuram; Sukumaran (79) from Nettayam, Soman (67) from Nemam, Sethukutty Amma (90) from Malayinkeezhu, Krishnapilla (90) from Manakkad, Sukumaran Nair (75) from Kollam, Linos (74) from Alappuzha Canal Ward, Abdul Kalam (65) from Vellakinar, Moideen Kutty (63) from Aluva, Ernakulam, Scaria Ithaq (90) from Pamiyakuda, TT Sicily (78) from Vellore, Ashraf (56) from Aluva, Rajan (85) from Mundamveli, Pushpakaran (63) from Cholakode, Thrissur, Muthulakshmi (89) from Pushpagiri village, MK Mani (92) from Kunnamkulam, Mary Thomas (65) from Pavaratti, Basheer Ahmed (67) from Kadavallur, Sankaran (76) from Ollur, Solomon (55) from Surabhi Nagar, Gopalan (67) from Koratti, Janaki (83) from Thengamukku, A.E.Mohammad Ismail (51) a native of Victoria College, Palakkad, Juniath (48) from Nattukal, Veerankutty (57) from Kondotty, Malappuram, Pramod Das (50) from Kozhikode Kappil and Chinnamma (80) from Vaduvanchal, Wayanad. This brought the total death toll to 1,403. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.
One hundred and seventy-eight of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State. Of the total, 7,646 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 872 was not clear.
Ninty-four health workers were affected by the disease and the test results of 7,660 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative.
There were currently 2,90,504 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of these, 2,68,506 are under home / institutional quarantine and 21,998 in hospitals. A total of 2,616 people were admitted to hospitals on the day.
A total of 66,980 samples were tested during the last 24 hours, while 44,076,730 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay.
There were 11 new hotspots and 12 areas have been excluded from the hotspot list. With this, there were a total of 687 hotspots.
