3,423 confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on Dec.21; 27 dead

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 3,423 people in Kerala on December 21. The district-wise break-up of the infected are Malappuram 626, Kozhikode 507, Ernakulam 377, Palakkad 305, Thrissur 259, Alappuzha 242, Kollam 234, Thiruvananthapuram 222, Kottayam 217, Kannur 159, Pathanamthitta 112, Wayanad 65, Idukki 55 and Kasaragod 43 districts.

During the last 24 hours, 34,847 samples were tested. The test positivity rate is 9.82. Routine sample, Sentinel sample, CBNAT, TRUNAT, POCT. PCR, RT A total of 73,82,223 samples have so far been sent for testing, including LAMP and antigen testing.

It has been confirmed that 27 deaths in the last few days were due to COVID-19. Saibaba Beevi (64) from Pangode, Thiruvananthapuram, O. KV Thampan (70), of Thonnakkad., Joseph (66) from Ullanad, Kottayam, AJ Jose (75) from Changanassery, PS Rajan (72), from Ernakulam North Paravur, MM Musthafa (72) from Puthuppadi, Shanthi P Lalan (85) from Panampilly Nagar, PP Augustine (86) from Kothamangalam, Subramanian (68) from Chittatukara, Amin (58) from Mattancherry, Narayanan (93) from Kundannur, Rajinikanth (41) from Thripunnithura, Mathews (73) from Kandasankadavu, Thrissur and KT Ouseppe (81) from Chalakudy, Dineshan (50) from Chempoochira, Abdu (58) from Kottapadam, Palakkad, Fathima (70) from Karakunnu, Malappuram, Muhammad Haji (68) from Koyilandy, Kozhikode, Kunhaisha (65) from Kozhikode and Pathu (85) from Wayanad were the people whose death was confirmed as due to COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 2,843. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Forty-eight of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State. 2982 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 359 is not clear. Malappuram 596, Kozhikode 488, Ernakulam 297, Palakkad 185, Thrissur 247, Alappuzha 222, Kollam 233, Thiruvananthapuram 155, Kottayam 197, Kannur 135, Pathanamthitta 72, Wayanad 64, Idukki 51 and Kasaragod 40 were affected by the disease.

The disease affected 34 health workers. Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode 5 each, Ernakulam, Malappuram 4 each, Pathanamthitta, Kannur 3 each, Thrissur, Kasaragod 2 each and Wayanad 1 were affected by the disease today.

The test results of 4,494 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 227, Kollam 333, Pathanamthitta 250, Alappuzha 202, Kottayam 511, Idukki 35, Ernakulam 476, Thrissur 590, Palakkad 226, Malappuram 694, Kozhikode 495, Wayanad 120, Kannur 304 and Kasaragod 31 had negative results today. With this, 60,504 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 6,45,779 people have so far been freed from COVID.
There are currently 2,80,375 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,66,765 are under home / institutional quarantine and 13,610 in hospitals. A total of 1,312 people were admitted to hospitals.
There are eight new hotspots and nine areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are a total of 457 hotspots.
