COVID-19 has been confirmed for 1,983 people in Kerala on August 21, even as test results of 1,419 people who were diagnosed and treated turned negative. Twelve deaths have been confirmed on the day as due to the infection.
The district-wise tally of the infected on the day is|: 429 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 335 in persons from Malappuram district, 165 in Ernakulam district, 158 in Kozhikode district, 155 in Alappuzha district, 136 in Kottayam district, 119 in Thrissur district, 105 in Kasaragod district, 83 in Palakkad district, 82 in Kollam district, 78 each from Pathanamthitta and Kannur districts, 34 from Idukki district and 26 from Wayanad district.
The people whose deaths were confirmed due to COVID-19 on the day were Sadanandan (62) from Kariyilakulangara in Alappuzha district who died on August 15; Krishnan (78) from Kannapuram, Kannur; Muhammed Kutty (78) from Vennala, Ernakulam; Ahmed Hamsa (69) from Nallalam, Kozhikode; Aishamma (54) from Malappuram Randathani; Indinkutty (71) from Cheriyamunda Malappuram; Mohammad Iqbal (58) from Naduvathu, Malappuram; Mullakoya Thangal (67) from Thikkodi, Kozhikode; Devaki Amma (94) from Chelampra, Malappuram who died on August 14; Mohammad Koya (55) from Thikkodi, Kozhikode who died on August 16; P.T. Zulu (49) of Mavoor Kozhikode ; and Shine Babu (47) from West Hill, Kozhikode. This brings the total death toll to 203. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.
Of the total infected, 64 were from foreign countries and 99 are from other States. While 1,777 people were infected through contact, the contact source of 109 of them is not clear. Thirty-five health workers were also affected by the disease. Seven INHS employees in Ernakulam district For, and a DSC employee in Kannur district were also affected.
There are currently 1,76,930 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of those under surveillance, 1,61,790 are under home / institutional quarantine and 15,140 are in hospitals. A total of 2128 people were admitted to hospital on the day.
At the same time, inspections have been increased. 35,825 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. A total of 13,49,071 samples have so far been sent for testing.
Thirty-two new hotspots were declared on the day while eight areas were removed from the list. There are now 607 hotspots in the State.
