The Karnataka High Court, in a strange observation,said that it is ‘unbecoming of an Indian woman to sleep after being raped’.The observation was made by Justice Krishna S Dixit while granting pre-arrest bail to an accused Rakesh B.The court made this bizarre observation while granting anticipatory bail to a rape accused.
According to a report,Justice Krishna noted,“The explanation offered by the complainant that after the perpetration of the act she was tired and fell asleep, is unbecoming of an Indian woman;that is not the way our women react when they are ravished.”
Meanwhile,the court has laid down several conditions for the accused while granting bail.The accused has been restricted from leaving the trial court jurisdiction without permission.He has also been asked by the court to report to the police station every second and fourth Saturday of every month.The rape accused was an employee of the victim for the past two years. The accused is alleged to have developed physical relations with the woman on the pretext of marriage.
