Dubai : In a major boost to connectivity and traffic flow, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open a new direct entry and exit point to Al Warqa from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road early next week. The move is set to reduce travel time by 80%, cutting the journey from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes, and the distance from 5.7km to 1.5km.
The newly developed route can accommodate up to 5,000 vehicles per hour, significantly easing congestion and providing smoother access to the growing Al Warqa community.
Major Infrastructure Upgrades
As part of a broader development plan, RTA has also upgraded Street 13 in Al Warqa 1, enhancing accessibility for both residents and nearby school zones. These efforts are part of an 8km internal road project aimed at improving overall traffic flow, reducing travel delays, and elevating quality of life for the area’s residents.
An RTA spokesperson highlighted the strategic nature of the improvements:
“This is a long-term investment in shorter commute times and smarter, more sustainable connectivity. It aligns with Dubai’s rapid urban growth and commitment to world-class mobility solutions.”
Enhancing Mobility and Sustainability
In Al Warqa 3 and 4, RTA is advancing additional internal road upgrades, including:
- New pedestrian walkways
- Expanded parking areas
- Over 23km of cycling tracks
These initiatives are designed to encourage eco-friendly transport and improve last-mile connectivity across the area.
Smart Intersections and Future Plans
RTA is also preparing to convert roundabouts in Al Warqa 1 into smart, signalised intersections by the end of the year. This change is expected to enhance traffic efficiency by up to 30%.
Earlier enhancements around the School of Research Science and GEMS Royal Dubai School added 150 new parking spots and improved access points, helping to reduce school-zone traffic congestion by up to 50%.
Housing Support and Community Engagement
In Al Warqa 4, RTA has completed roadworks supporting the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Project, which includes 136 villas. The area now features pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and a 7.4km cycling track promoting sustainable mobility.
These projects are guided by community input, gathered through interactive sessions with residents to ensure the developments meet local needs and expectations.
