Row over KSRTC order allowing max speed of 110 km/hr to Swift buses

 

 

Thiruvanathapuram: KSRTC has released a controversial order which states that SWIFT buses can have a maximum speed of 110 km/hr when the maximum permissible speed of heavy passenger vehicles stands at 65 km/hr on SH/ NH and 70 km/h on four-lane roads in Kerala.

The new directives are mentioned in an order issued by KSRTC special officer back in July regarding functioning of SWIFT services in the state.

The Special Officer is directed to take measures to display the service schedules at the bus station and buses and make the schedules of SWIFT buses available in all units.

It is reported that an order was issued by KSRTC based on a proposal tabled at a meeting chaired by the secretary of the Transport Department to increase the speed of SWIFT buses. It is indicated that the directive to increase the speed limit aims to reduce the time taken by SWIFT buses SWIFT buses operating long-distance inter-state services. The order has already raised concern among the public in the wake of the bus accident in Vadakkencherry leaving nine dead on Wednesday.
