MUSCAT : The National Committee for the Care of Persons with Disabilities convened today in a pivotal meeting led by Her Excellency Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Committee.
During the meeting, Her Excellency Dr. Al Najjar emphasized the importance of the 33 initiatives developed by the Laboratory for the Development of Services and Programs for Persons with Disabilities. These initiatives are spread across five critical pillars: Healthy Quality of Life, Rehabilitation and Educational Life, Life in Work and Income, Family, Society and the State, and General Enablers. Each pillar is designed to address key aspects of life, ensuring a holistic approach to improving the well-being of individuals with disabilities.
A major highlight of the meeting was the discussion surrounding the upcoming second forum for people with disabilities, set to take place in North Al Batinah Governorate in 2025. The forum aims to foster awareness and dialogue about disability inclusion. Additionally, the committee reviewed a specialized training program for business owners and workers, which will focus on integrating individuals with disabilities into the workplace—an essential step toward increasing employment opportunities and economic independence for this group.
Further discussions also covered the range of services and facilities available to people with disabilities, as well as other related topics crucial to their integration and empowerment within society.
