Omani-Iraqi Joint Committee strengthens ties with key agreements

Muscat: The ninth Omani-Iraqi Joint Committee meeting was held today in Baghdad, marking a significant step forward in bilateral cooperation between the two nations. The meeting, led by His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Dr. Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, underscored their shared commitment to regional stability and prosperity.
In his address, His Excellency Al Busaidi emphasized that the long-standing relationship between Oman and Iraq is based on mutual respect, shared visions, and a deep-rooted partnership. He highlighted the importance of advancing joint efforts in economic, commercial, cultural, tourism, and scientific fields to benefit both nations and the wider region.
The Minister also praised Iraq’s vital role in addressing key Arab and regional issues, particularly its stance on the Palestinian cause, and stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.
His Excellency Dr. Fuad Hussein reciprocated by acknowledging Oman’s pivotal role in supporting regional security and its contributions to the Arab world. He expressed Iraq’s eagerness to strengthen its cooperation with Oman, focusing on enhancing coordination in areas of mutual interest to promote stability and prosperity for both countries.

The meeting culminated in the signing of two important memoranda of understanding. One agreement between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries will bolster political consultations, while the second memorandum between Oman’s Diplomatic Academy and Iraq’s Institute of Foreign Service will enhance collaboration in diplomatic studies and training.

Both sides expressed a strong commitment to implementing the terms of the agreements and to working towards the sustainable development of their nations. The meeting concluded with a shared vision to further deepen their cooperation and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and partnership between Oman and Iraq.
