Manama : A group of parliament members is moving to ban expatriates from certain occupations in Bahrain, including engineering, hospitality and tourism. Under the leadership of the Vice Chairman of the Parliament Service Committee, Muhammad Al Olaiwi, five MPs raised an urgent proposal on this matter in the Parliament. In order to create more employment opportunities for natives in some areas, they have put forward a proposal aimed at completely banning non-residents from some selected work areas.
They have proposed to stop expatriate recruitment in areas including administrative affairs, human resources, arts, events, media, public relations, accounting, banking, security, documentation, cargo clearance and tourist guidance. There are hundreds of unemployed Bahrainis, Al Olaiwi said, adding that new graduates can take up jobs without relying on expatriates. He also says that when the country is suffering from unemployment, this proposal should be seen as a real solution to the problem.
