Kuwait begins evening shifts in Ministries to enhance public services

KUWAIT: The new system, introduced following a Cabinet decision, will see ministries and institutions operate evening shifts with selected employees to extend service hours. Local media reports that employees for these shifts were finalized in advance to ensure a smooth rollout.

Evening shifts, capped at a maximum of 4.5 hours and starting no earlier than 3:30 pm, are expected to improve employee productivity and enhance service delivery. The Civil Service Commission (CSC) clarified that flexible working hours will not apply during evening operations.
While most government agencies have assigned only a limited number of units and staff to the evening shifts, the initiative seeks to simplify procedures and provide efficient services tailored to the diverse needs of the public. Authorities will closely monitor the system’s impact to evaluate its success in improving Kuwait’s government sector work environment.
