Kerala reports 5,624 new COVID cases, test positivity rate at 8.94 percent

Kerala reported 5,624 fresh Covid-19 cases on Janaury 15, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja in a press release. Twenty-three deaths were reported taking the total death toll to 3,415.

62,934 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate was at 8.94 percent. 4,603 recoveries were also recorded.

5,110 people contracted the virus through contact. The source of 394 contact cases could not be
traced.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam – 799, Kozhikode – 660, Kottayam – 567,Thrissur – 499, Malappuram – 478, Kollam – 468, Pathanamthitta – 443, Alappuzha – 353,
Thiruvananthapuram – 301, Idukki – 290, Wayanad – 241, Kannur – 219, Palakkad – 209 and
Kasaragod – 97.

None of the UK returnees tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 56 of the UK
returnees have tested positive for Covid-19 and 9 among them have been identified as the mutant
virus strain.

So far, 87,51,519 samples have been tested across various priority groups.

58 of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 5,110 people have contracted the virus through contact.
