Kerala on September reported the highest ever single-day spike of COVID-19 cases.
With 6,324 fresh cases, the total case count reached 1,54,456. The State also registered 3,168 recoveries taking the total recovery to 1,07,850 .
Twenty one deaths were also reported taking the total death toll to 613.
Local transmission of COVID-19 continues unabated as 5,321 of the newly reported cases contracted the virus through contact. Of this, the infection 628 is unknown.
Apart from this, 105 health workers also contracted the virus
Of the new cases reported, 44 people came from abroad, while 226 came from other states.
Kozhikode reported the highest number of coronavirus cases on September 24.
In the last 24 hours, 54,989 samples have been tested, a health department statement said.In total 26,00,359 samples were sent for testing. As many as 1,99,390 samples also collected as part of sentinel surveillance.
Of the 2,12,318 people under observation for suspected infection, 1,85,198 are home/institutional quarantined and 27,120 hospitalised.
Twenty two new places were designated as hotspots, while eight regions were excluded from the list. The state currently has 654 hotspots.
The district-wise breakup of coronavirus cases on September 24 are 883 from Kozhikode, 875 from Thiruvananthapuram, 763 from Malappuram, 590 from Ernakulam, 474 from Thrissur, 453 from Alappuzha, 440 from Kollam, 406 from Kannur, 353 from Palakkad, 341 from Kottayam, 300 from Kasaragod, 189 from Pathnamthitta, 151 from Idukki and 106 from Wayanad.
