Kalmandalam Protests Against Misuse of Kathakali Imagery

Cheruthuruthi: Kalmandalam, along with artists and performers, has raised a strong protest against the misuse of Kathakali imagery in modeling photos. These images, featuring Kathakali attire, are being used inappropriately, with models dressed in costumes that mock the traditional art form, often with suggestive or vulgar elements.

The images in question are being circulated on various online platforms, which has prompted Kalmandalam to issue a formal protest. Dr. B. Ananthakrishnan, the Vice-Chancellor of Kalmandalam, has called for legal action against those responsible, emphasizing that such depictions undermine the dignity of Kathakali.

The institution has also urged for legal measures to be taken to prevent further misuse. Dr. P. Rajeshkumar, a member of the Kathakali Artists Association, and other committee members have supported this stance, stressing the importance of protecting the sanctity of Kathakali.

Kalmandalam has previously addressed similar issues, including inappropriate portrayals of Kathakali on television, and remains committed to safeguarding the art form’s integrity and reputation.
