IPL gets positive nod from the Indian government, confirms BCCI

After days of uncertainty, BCCI has finally received a positive nod from the Indian government to conduct the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The decision has been confirmed by BCCI chairman Brijesh Patel on Monday.

According to Patel, IPL organisers, in all probabilities, will announce the tournament’s new title sponsors by August 18. Patel also added that IPL will not face a setback even though Vivo has backed out from sponsoring the tournament.

It should be noted that Vivo has backed out from becoming the sponsor of the IPL due to the public outrage against Chinese products following the tensions in the Sino-India border.

The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League will be held in the UAE from September 19 to November 10. The main events of the games will be staged in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.

It was due to the coronavirus outbreak that the BCCI thought about conducting the tournament outside India. As the coronavirus curve has shown signs of flattening in the UAE, BCCI believes that the middle-east country is the best venue to host the tournament.
