India sees highest single day spike with over 62,000 fresh cases

India’s COVID-19 cases tally crossed 20-lakh mark with the highest single day spike of 62,538 cases on August 7, Ministry of Health said.

The COVID-19 tally rose to 20,27,075 including 6,07,384 active cases and 41,585 deaths. 13,78,106 cases were discharged.

The country became the third nation to record more than 2 million cases of the novel coronavirus, behind the United States and Brazil, as infections spread further to smaller towns and rural areas.

On the bright side, India’s recovery rate has improved to 67.62% with the fatality rate dropping to 2.07 percent.

The ICMR on August 6, sought participation of institutions and hospitals identified as dedicated coronavirus hospitals or health centers as part of its project to establish National Clinical Registry of COVID-19 ‘ to help to improve treatment outcomes and analyse trends in the progression of the pandemic.

The aim is to develop a registry to collect data regarding clinical and laboratory features, treatments, and outcomes of hospitalized Covid-19 patients in India.

The objective is also to study the frequency, clinical and laboratory features, treatments, and outcomes of Covid-19 related multi system inflammatory disorder in children and adolescents by analyzing the national Covid-19 registry, the ICMR said.

Data would be collected from 100 hospitals across the country as part of the project.
