ED arrests Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, finds link to money seized at close aide Arpita’s house

Chatterjee, who was the state education minister when the alleged scam took place, was arrested after around 26 hours of questioning by ED officials at his south Kolkata home.

Kolkotta: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday arrested West Bengal industry and commerce minister Partha Chatterjee in connection with its investigation into the alleged teacher recruitment scam.

Chatterjee, who was the state education minister when the alleged scam took place, was arrested after around 26 hours of questioning by ED officials at his south Kolkata home.

The arrest comes a day after the probe agency recovered Rs 21 crore in cash from a property linked to Chatterjee’s close aide Arpita Mukherjee. Around 20 mobile phones and several incriminating documents were also recovered from the premises of Mukherjee.

The ED’s raids come a month after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered cases in the recruitment scam on the direction of the Calcutta High Court.
