The body of Judy, a native of Anchuthengu, who died of COVID-19, was cremated by Attingal Municipal Corporation Chairman M. Pradeep wearing a PPe kit.
The body of 68-year-old Judy, who died at the Medical College Hospital following an illness the previous day, was taken for cremation by Chairman M. Pradeep wearing a PP kit following protests by locals.
The body was cremated at the Municipal Crematorium in Attingal following an RTO order. Local people blocked the ambulance and the road after the body was brought. Pradeep, Standing Committee Chairman R Raju, Attingal Circle Inspector Dipindas and Municipal Secretary S.S. Viswanathan, led by Revenue Department officials, spoke to the locals and reached an agreement.
Pradeep took over the task of cremation wearing a PPE kit after the cremation staff withdrew. The chairman said he had taken up the task because he was convinced that it was not right to show disrespect to the body under any circumstances.
