2,543 confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on Aug. 28

COVID-19 confirmed for 2,543 people in Kerala on August 28. The test results of 2,097 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative on the day.

The district-wise breakup of the COVID-19 positive is 532 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 298 from Malappuram district, 286 from Alappuzha district, 207 from Ernakulam district, 189 from Thrissur district, 174 from Kozhikode district, 157 from Kasaragod district, 156 from Kollam district,. 135 people from Kannur district, 127 from Palakkad district, 126 from Kottayam district, 88 from Pathanamthitta district, 49 from Idukki district and 19 from Wayanad district.

The people who were confirmed to have died due to the infection were Mohammad Fathima (70) from Balaramapuram, Thiruvananthapuram who died on August 25; Madaswamy Chettyar (80) from Karumam, Thiruvananthapuram; Madhavi (77) from Kadannamanna, Malappuram, Abubaker Khaji (80) from Tirurangadi; Rajamma (85) from Venpalavattam, Thiruvananthapuram who died on August 23; Krishnankutty (69), a resident of Balaramapuram, Thiruvananthapuram, who died on August 22; and P.V. Yusuf (54), a resident of Kannur, who died on August 13. This brings the total death toll to 274. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Seventy-five of those diagnosed with the disease are from foreign countries and 156 from other states; 2,260 people were infected through contact. The contact source of 229 of them is not clear. Fifty-two health workers were also affected by the disease.

There are currently 1,94,431 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of those under observation, 1,75,306 are under home / institutional quarantine and 19,125 are under observation in hospitals. A total of 2,541 people were admitted to the hospital on the day.

There are 30 new hotspots and 34 areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are currently 599 hotspots.
