Oman and Angola promise stronger cooperation across key sectors in joint statement

Muscat: This announcement follows the official visit of His Excellency President João Lourenço of Angola to Oman, from December 19 to 21, 2024.

During his visit, President Lourenço was warmly welcomed by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, and the two leaders held in-depth discussions aimed at advancing the shared interests of their nations. Both parties agreed to work on a cooperation agreement that will span economic, scientific, technological, and cultural affairs, with an emphasis on joint ventures in mining, food security, tourism, and logistics.
The talks also focused on enhancing diplomatic ties, with both sides agreeing to negotiate a series of memoranda of understanding and agreements, including mutual visa exemptions for official passport holders, as well as political consultations.
Furthermore, the two leaders exchanged views on global challenges, including climate change, and reaffirmed their respect for international law and the United Nations Charter. The visit also underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving global peace and security.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham commended President Lourenço’s leadership in promoting peace in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and expressed support for his upcoming role as chair of the African Union in February 2025. In turn, President Lourenço praised Oman’s diplomatic approach, highlighting the nation’s commitment to dialogue, peace, and international cooperation.
