Girl falls to death from Sharjah high-rise

A 15-year-old Indian girl, identified as Sameesha Paul, died after falling from the third floor of a building in the Al Tawun area of Sharjah on July 26, Sharjah Police authorities confirmed. The girl was reportedly a Grade 10 student of a CBSE school in Ajman.

An official with the Buhairah Police Station has said that an initial investigation and interrogation of the family does not show suicide to be the cause of death, and the case has been referred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution for further investigation, reported Khaleej Times.

The police said the case does not show any signs of suicide and could be an accident. A witness had alerted the police after her body was found on a pavement next to the building.

The girl’s family are members of the Mar Thoma Church in Sharjah. She is also said to have a twin sister.
The family had reportedly gone to sleep the previous night while the girl was watching television. It was only when the police authorities rang their doorbell in the early hours of the next day that they realised what had happened.

E.P. Johnson, the president of the Sharjah Indian Association, said the association was willing to extend all support to the family to repatriate the girl’s mortal remains to India.

Children falling off high-rises with fatal consequences has been a recurring issue in the emirates. In December 2019, another Keralite girl had fallen to her death from the 10th floor of an apartment complex in Sharjah. In October that year, a 16-year-old Afghani girl lost her balance while trying to take a selfie and fallen off the balcony of her parents’ high-rise apartment in Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai.
