10,606 infected with COVID-19 on Oct. 7 in Kerala

For the first time after the spread of COVID-19, more than 10,000 people were affected with the infection in Kerala on October 7. COVID-19 was confirmed for 10,606 people on October 7. The worst affected districts are Kozhikode 1,576, Malappuram 1,350, Ernakulam 1,201, Thiruvananthapuram 1,182, Thrissur 948, Kollam 852, Alappuzha 672, Palakkad 650, Kannur 602, Kottayam 490, Kasaragod 432, Pathanamthitta 393, Wayanad 138 and Idukki 120.

The people whose death were confirmed on the day were Mohanakumar (60) from Peringamala, Thiruvananthapuram, Safia Beevi (74) from Valiyathura, Xavier (90) from Valiyathura, Sankaran (74) from Kodunganoor, Murugappan Achari (74) from Mullakkal, Leela (59) from Vazhayila, Jainamma (66) from Poojappura), Fathima (65) from Poojappura, Manikuttan (47) from Ottasekharamangalam, Jayan (43) from Pioneerkonam, Jagadamma (74) from Thonakkal, Dasan Nadar (90) from Thiruvananthapuram, Kamaluddin (70) from Puthukkurichi, Ahmed Basheer (71) from Poovachal, Kannan (88) from Kollam, Basheer Kutty (67) from Ochira, Alappuzha, Jhansi Joseph (54) from Kattappana, Idukki, Fathima (56) from Korappuzha, Malappuram, Abu (76) from Nilambur, Hamsa (77) from Nilambur, Pathumma (75) of Mambad, and Hamsa (80) of Othalloor. This brings the total death toll to 906. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Of those diagnosed with the infection on the day, 55 arrived from foreign countries and 164 from other States. A total 9,542 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 741 was not clear.
A total of 98 health workers were infected through contact. The test results of 6,161 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative.
There were currently 2,67,834 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,38,331 are under home / institutional quarantine and 29,503 are under hospital surveillance. A total of 2,922 people were admitted to hospitals on the day.

During the last 24 hours, 73,816 samples were tested. A total of 33,40,242 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 2,10,648 samples were sent for testing from priority groups, including health workers, guest workers, and individuals with greater social contact.

There were 14 new hotspots while 12 areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there were a total of 720 hotspots.
