New Crown Prince nominated in Kuwait

Kuwait’s Amiri Diwan (Ruler’s court) announced that the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah has nominated Mishal Al Ahmed Al Sabah as his crown prince. The nomination will be put for voting to the National Assembly (Parliament) on October 8.

The Kuwaiti constitution stipulates that the Emir’s nomination for crown prince must be approved by the National Assembly. If the majority in National Assembly votes against the nomination, the Emir must submit three other names, one of which the National Assembly must approve.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid visits Kuwait

Meanwhile, regional Arab leaders arrived in Kuwait City to pay last respects to the late Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, visited Kuwait on October 4 to offer condolences.

Sheikh Mohammed and his delegation were received at the airport by the Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah.

The UAE delegation included His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and other senior officials.

The Sultan of Oman His Majesty Haitham bin Traiq Al Said, along with his delegation, and King Abdullah II bin Al Hussain of Jordan and his son, the Crown Prince also visited Kuwait.
