World’s largest fountain opens in Dubai

Our Correspondent

The Palm Fountain at the Pointe in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai’s famous palm-shaped manmade archipelago, was officially inaugurated on October 22. It has broken the record for the world’s largest fountain with 7327 square metres, moving the Dubai Mall Fountain to second place.

The fountain, which is Dubai’s only multicoloured fountain, is spread over 14,000 sq ft of sea water. It is equipped with shooters capable of blasting water 105 metres into the air and will come alive with over 3,000 LED lights. The fountain has a high-performance audio system with 86 speakers on both sides. It circulates water from the sea directly without the need for a water tank or filtration equipment.

The inaugural event, which was free to attend and open to the public, ran from 4pm until late in the night. The first 5000 people to arrive were given a free LED wristband, as part of the launch moment. There were festivities and competitions including performances by well-known artistes.

There was live entertainment including multiple DJ sets, dance shows, and a fireworks show. At 8 pm, spectators enjoyed the fountain show from 30 different restaurants at The Pointe.

The Palm Fountain will have 20 shows with five different performances running daily from 7 pm to 12 am. The water jets will sway to popular songs including Khaleeji, pop, classic, and international. Each show will last for three minutes and will be performed every 30 minutes.
