With 36,604 fresh cases, India’s coronavirus caseload nears 95 lakh

India’s daily coronavirus cases continued to stay below the 50,000 mark for the 25th day, with 36,604 new infections reported, data from health ministry showed on Wednesday.

Death rose by 501, the health ministry said, with total now at 138, 122.

India’s total case now stands at 94,99,414. The country has 4,28,644 active cases of coronavirus.
In the past 24 hours, 43,062 patients were discharged across the country, taking the total recovered patients to 89,32,647.

The total number of samples tested up to Tuesday stood at 14,24,45,949, including 10,96,651 samples tested yesterday itself, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Union health ministry said on Tuesday that the country does not need to vaccinate all of its 1.3 billion people if it manages to break the transmission of coronavirus. India recorded 31,118 fresh cases on Tuesday, the lowest daily tally since November 17, the health ministry data showed.

Five states are reporting increase in active cases in the country, which is the actual disease burden of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) , shows data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The top five states showing the rise are Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.
