Winter vacation begins for private schools

On-site, online and hybrid learners in UAE schools can rejoice – December 10 is the last working day as schools prepare to close for the winter break in a year in which the COVID-19 wreaked havoc on life, and distance learning became the norm for schoolchildren.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the private education regulator in Dubai, announced that private schools in the emirate will enjoy a three-week break from December 13 to 31. Classes will resume on January 3 after the New Year Holiday.

Most private school teachers will get a winter break along with their pupils from December 13. Their holidays end on December 31. Winter holidays for public school teachers in the UAE will begin only on December 20.

In Sharjah too, the winter vacation would be from December 13 to 31. The second semester will start on January 3.

The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) has announced the school calendar 2020-21 for private institutions. The spring break will be between March 28 and April 15. The third semester starts from April 18 and ends on July 1. The new academic session will start on August 29.

For Indian schools, classes will resume on January 3 after winter break and the term will end on March 28. The new academic year will begin on April 4 and summer vacation on July 1.

The minimum number of school days for all private schools in a year is 182. School hours are determined by the curriculum that an institution offers, according to SPEA Director Ali Al Hosani.
