Wheat farmers to reap a golden harvest in Oman with record output in Adam

Muscat: Wheat harvesting is underway across various areas and villages in Adam, spanning a cultivated area of 106 acres. The substantial increase in production reflects both the growing interest in wheat cultivation and the support provided by agricultural authorities.

Saeed bin Hamad Al Raqami, Head of the Agricultural Development and Water Resources Section in Adam, attributed the success to the crop’s nutritional value, low irrigation needs, and economic benefits for farmers. “Wheat cultivation in the state receives good demand from farmers every season, as it is a seasonal crop with high nutritional value,” he noted, adding that it is sold in both local and external markets.

To bolster the season’s output, the Department of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources distributed local wheat seed varieties—Wadi Quriyat 226 and 110—to farmers in areas including Al-Balad, Al-Manayef, Al-Harf, Al-Bishara, Al-Anqa, Al-Ghaydranah, Wadi Halfain, and Al-Samirat. The seeds were provided under a 50 percent subsidy scheme approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The department also supported farmers throughout the season—from sowing in November to harvesting in March and April—by conducting field visits and offering direct agricultural consultations. Modern equipment like combines and wheat pedals were supplied to improve harvesting efficiency across larger areas.
