WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook recover after global outage

Muscat: WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook users breathed a sigh of relief late Wednesday as Meta’s platforms came back online following a widespread outage. The disruption, which Meta attributed to a “technical issue,” affected over 23,900 users at its peak, according to Downdetector, leaving many unable to send messages, load posts, or access apps.

In a statement on X, Meta announced the resolution, saying, “Thanks for bearing with us! We’re 99% of the way there—just doing some last checks. We apologize to those who’ve been affected by the outage.”

The outage left users across the globe, including Muscat, temporarily disconnected. Reports indicated that 72% of Facebook users faced issues via its app, while WhatsApp and Instagram also experienced service interruptions. By evening, functionality was restored for most regions.
