WAM begins Hebrew news service

Our Correspondent

The UAE’s national news agency, Emirates News Agency (WAM), has launched a new news service in Hebrew. With this, WAM news services are available in 19 languages around the world.

There will be comprehensive media coverage in Hebrew, including news and written and audio-visual reports on the agency’s official website and social media accounts.

The Hebrew service has come after the establishment of bilateral ties between the UAE and Israel, following the signing of the Abrahamic Peace Accord between the two countries in September 2020.

Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of Emirates News Agency (WAM), stated that WAM is always keen to boost its media presence and influence regionally and globally. He pointed out that the UAE hosts citizens from over 200 countries, and the diversity of WAM’s news services is meant to help meet their needs.

In May 2020, WAM had introduced five languages – Sri Lankan (Sinhala), Malayalam, Indonesian, Bengali and Pashto – to cater to 551 million people who speak these languages.
