Vishal Bhardwaj to make movies on Agatha Christie’s works

After adapting many of William Shakespeare’s works, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj is set to adapt another iconic English litterateur- Agatha Christie.

Bharadwaj who has adapted Shakespeare’s Othello (Omkara), Macbeth (Maqbool) and Hamlet (Haider) , was stuck in his Mussoorie home during the coronavirus pandemic. He was confused as to what kind of films he will get to make under these circumstances prompted him to make a movie on of Christie’s novels- a movie that could be shot in a single location.

According to reports, Agatha Christie Limited, the estate that manages the literary and media rights to her works had contacted Vishal Bhardwaj and has signed up for an entire franchise. The movie will begin filming in early 2021. However the director hasn’t revealed about which of Agatha Christie’s work he is adapting. The cast is being finalised.

Christie, one of the highest-selling authors in the world, was known for her murder mystery and detective novels. She is behind the creation of popular literary characters like Hercules Poirot and Miss Marple. Her works have been adapted numerous times.

Agatha Christie has a huge fan following in India with several films being inspired by her works over the years.

Ali Fazal’s upcoming film Death on The Nile is also an adaptation of Agatha’s book by the same name.
