Vijay Sethupathi’s daughter gets rape threat over Muttiah Muralitharan biopic

Vijay Sethupathi walked out of Muttiah Muralitharan’s biopic ‘800’ due to societal pressure. But the issue is far from over as trolls issued raped threats to the actor’s daughter on social media. Soon after the actor announced he is quitting biopic of SriLankan cricketer, a twitter user made a distasteful remark of raping his minor daughter so that the actor would understand the pain of Eelam Tamils.

Many users slammed the troll and reported the user. The Twitter account has been restricted now.

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada took to Twitter to condemn the troll’s behaviour and tagged Chennai Police. She shared a screenshot of the troll’s distasteful comment and wrote, “A Tamil man who expresses his difference of opinion. This is why they stand in support of sexual crimes in the society. Is nobody in this system going to change this? A man who can say in public about raping a child is a criminal.”

Fondly called Makkal Selvan (son of the people), Sethupathi had been in the midst of controversies as politicians and Tamil Eelam supporters in Tamil Nadu were against him when he decided to play the Srilankan spinner in the biopic.

The film is in the midst of the controversy due to Muttiah Muralitharan’s comments in favour of the Sri Lankan Civil War that killed thousands of Eelam Tamils.

Recently a man who issued rape threats to cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s daughter was arrested by the cops.
