Vagabonds of ‘Othalanga Thuruthu’ to be on big screen

Popular Malayalam comedy series Othalanga Thuruthu is being adapted for the big screen with the backing from Anwar Rasheed. The six episode series has gained a cult following on social media as many viewers took a liking to its naturalistic treatment visuals and amusing characters.

The series, which is shot entirely in Kollam and features Kollam-based actors, got more attention during the lockdown

Othalanga Thuruthu, a comedy web series by Kollam native Ambuji BCM, has amassed quite a number of social media following, for its fine production and subtle humour. It is a fictional island and depicts characters like Nathu, Pappan and Uthaman, who live life on their own terms. They aren’t particularly working towards anything in life, taking each day as it comes.

When the majority of the web series coming in You Tube channel is mostly based on stories narrated for an urban audience, Othalanga.. decided to keep its rural roots.

The web series is being shot at Aayiram Thengu in Kollam and the picturesque frames is the asset of Kiran Nuptial.

The distinctive feature of the series is that the episodes have no continuity. Each episode narrates a new story. According to the director there is no continuity in life likewise the series.

Starring Abin Bino, Jayesh Janardhan and Jagadeesh Kumar, Othalanga Thuruthu is produced by Ambuji’s uncle Kuttans Pramod. It is available for streaming on YouTube.
