The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) has entered into a new partnership programme with the UAE Space Agency on June 16. During a virtual signing ceremony, officials of both the organisations discussed about the setting up of an international UNOOSA venture office in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was aimed at increasing collaborations on space activities and for promoting sustainable development goals.
This was for the first time that a bilateral international agreement was signed by the UAE Space Agency through video conferencing.
The agreement was signed by Dr Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency and Simonetta Di Pippo, Director of UNOOSA.
During the signing ceremony, Dr Al Ahbabi introduced the most recent advancements in the UAE’s space area, including the updates on the Emirates Mars Mission, which is planned to be launched in mid-July. He also talked about the second phase of the UAE Astronaut Programme and the guidelines for start-ups and entrepreneurs.
