UAE traffic update: Key roads in Dubai to close on Sunday for cycling race

Dubai is gearing up for an exciting weekend as the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday, February 23, 2024.

The 92 km race, running from 6:00 am to 10:30 am, will require temporary road closures to ensure the safety of participants.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) urges motorists to plan ahead to avoid delays and navigate affected routes. In a tweet, RTA advised drivers to check which roads will be impacted and to leave early to reach their destinations on time.

For the 15th edition of the challenge, the race will start at Expo City Dubai and pass through key routes like Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, Hessa Street, and First Al Khail Street, before returning to Expo City Dubai for the finish.

RTA kindly reminds the public to plan trips in advance and head out early to ensure timely arrivals.

Road closures and diversions

Traffic will pause about 10 minutes before the race begins, with diversions in place to redirect vehicles. Traffic signals and roundabouts along the race routes will be suspended to allow cyclists to pass safely.

Sunday, February 23:
6:10 am – 8:22 am: No access to D54 Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan or the Al Qudra Road / Umm Sequim Traffic Circle. Affected areas include Al Reem, Damac Hills, and Mira Oasis.
