UAE schools to enforce mobile phone ban and strict attendance rules

Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Education has announced that the third term of the current academic year 2024–2025 will commence as scheduled on Monday, April 14.

Both public and private schools have issued guidelines and regulations concerning the return of students, teaching staff, technical teams, and administrative personnel for the third and final term of the academic year.
The use of mobile phones or any unauthorised electronic devices within school premises is strictly forbidden. Such items will be confiscated and dealt with according to the official Student Behaviour Policy.

The use of iPads is also strictly prohibited. However, students are required to bring all necessary school supplies, including a fully charged laptop (either personal or ministry-issued).
Strict action on unjustified absence
Schools have notified parents of the necessary guidelines and requirements through email and SMS, emphasising that attendance will remain in-person for all students.

School administrations have made it clear that any unjustified absence will be recorded during every lesson. Accumulating three missed lessons will be considered as one full day of absence. Such absences will negatively impact a student’s behavioural record. Additionally, parents visiting the school must wear formal attire, present a valid ID, and register their details at reception.
Uniform mandatory
Full adherence to the official national school uniform is mandatory, with the designated sports uniform allowed only during physical education classes. The wearing of hoodies or any unauthorised attire is strictly prohibited.

School administrations have emphasised the importance of maintaining personal appearance and general hygiene, including appropriate haircuts and avoiding unconventional styles.

The guidelines specify that the school day will follow a lesson-based schedule, beginning at 7am and ending at 2.10pm from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, the school day concludes at 10.30am after the fourth lesson.

Parents have also been urged to commit to a single transportation method for their children, whether the school bus or private car, and to adhere to designated drop-off and pick-up times and locations. Specific entry and exit gates have been assigned for each area to ensure smooth traffic flow and organised school access.
Schools have also scheduled Dhuhr prayer during the second break, with designated areas allocated for prayer.

Schools have confirmed their readiness to welcome students back on the first day of the new term, supported by extensive preparations and organisational measures aimed at maintaining a safe, disciplined, and conducive learning environment.
