Three days lockdown implemented in Goa from July 17

In view of the increasing cases of corona infections, Goa government has implemented complete lockdown for 3 days starting today. The lockdown will be in place till 19 July.

Meanwhile, the streets of Goa fell silent after 8 pm on July 16 as the state observed ‘Janata Curfew’ to check the spread of coronavirus. The state government has announced janata curfew between 8 pm to 6 am till August 10. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said during the janata curfew, movement for all non- essential activities has been prohibited.

Sawant further noted that people are not wearing masks and not following the social distancing guidelines despite the rise in Covid-19 cases. He said more than 40,000 people in the state have so far been fined for not wearing mask. “Somewhere, we need to be more strict. There should be awareness and discipline among people, he said.

According to the reports, there are 2,951 covid-19 cases in the coastal state. So far 78 people have succumbed to Corona in the state. Goa was earlier declared a Green Zone by the Union government in May with no active cases in the state. However, the situation has now changed with more fresh cases surging in the state daily.
