Tharoor appeals to Kerala CM to help people affected by sea erosion

Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, has urged Chief Minsiter Pinarayi Vijayan to take urgent measures to help the residents of in Poonthura, Valiyathura, Vettucaud, and several other places in Thiruvananthapuram whose houses were destroyed in costal inundation.

In his tweet, Mr. Tharoor said that the situation was critical for people already reeling under the impact of the COVID19 pandemic.

The residents’ have appealed for clay sacks to protect their houses on the verge of collapse, and for food and essential supplies. The MP said that the appeals of the people have gone unheeded. He asked “If governments cannot protect our most vulnerable citizens in the face of calamity, what are governments for?”

Speaking about the people of the area he said, “A community already threatened by COVID19, stripped of their livelihood by the lockdown and helpless before the fury of the sea must not be further pushed into poverty and starvation. I urge @CMO Kerala to take urgent measures to help them without delay.”
