Tests for COVID-19 become affordable for airline passengers

Our Correspondent

UAE-based NMC Healthcare has entered into tie-ups with airlines operating in the country and is offering special rates for the reverse transcript-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests for COVID -19.  Air Arabia, Air India and Air India Express are some of the notable carriers that have announced partnership with the medical institution.

A regular PCR test can be done for Dh150 at NMC hospitals and medical centres, while home testing facility is available at a cost of Dh190. This has come as a boon for passengers of international flights especially to India.

NMC’s 11 centres in Abu Dhabi, four in Dubai, eight in Sharjah and one each in Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, are currently providing the test at this special rate to passengers of the three airlines, NMC Healthcare said in a statement. Passengers need to show their flight ticket and Emirates ID or passport as proof. Payment has to be made before providing the sample for the test, it said.

Home service appointments can be booked by calling 600555669 for sample collection. Reports will be sent via SMS and email within 24 and 48 hours.

The Indian Home Ministry recommends the RT-PCR test though it is not mandatory except to the States of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. India has entered into an air bubble agreement with the UAE that will see special flights until October 31.
