Tesla officially enters India

The world’s leading electric car manufacturer Tesla Inc, has finally made its entry to India. The United States automobile giant has registered as a company in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The Chief Minister of the state BS Yediyurappa welcomed Elon Musk to the country and the state. Tesla has set up a research and development facility in Bengaluru which was confirmed by the Chief Minister on Twitter.

According to the Registrar of Companies ( RoC), the new entity is classified as a subsidiary of a foreign company. Tesla has also named Vibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram and David Jon Feinstein as three directors in the newly formed company in India.

However, there is no clarity as to what the company will be focusing on- R&D, sales or manufacturing.

Elon Musk has hinted last year that Tesla would start selling its cars in India in 2021. Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari had said in December that Tesla will commence sales in India in 2021, and would evaluate assembly or manufacturing based on the market response it receives.
