A week after filmmaker Vidhu Vincent blasted out at WCC (Women Cinema Collective) with allegations, actor Parvathy has responded to these allegations through a lengthy post on her social media.

Parvathy through her Facebook post said that she was shocked at the allegations, which were never raised by Vidhu, until her resignation.

“In the letter to WCC, Vidhu says she had sent me the screenplay of her film and then waited for six months. She alleges that I did not get back to her at any point. Hence I would like to reveal the chronology of events,” Parvathy said.

“In May 2018, my work for My Story and Koode was being completed but I was fatigued by the long ensuing hate campaigns and threats that were being made against me at that time. I was advised to take a break from work for a few months ceasing work communications,” Parvathy writes.

According to Parvathy, Vidhu, accompanied by her writer, had arrived on the sets of Uyire and they narrated the script in detail.

“I heard them out and after reflecting on it, politely told them that the script will not work for me. When Vidhu persisted, I told her there were time constraints and prior commitments to two projects that were lined up. Since she was pretty persistent to convince me, I decided to give it another thought. I agreed to revert with a final decision within 10 days. As promised, on one of the following days I made a phone call and informed her that I will not be able to do the project,” the actor said.

In the letter, Vidhu further alleged that WCC did not adopt the same stance when Parvathy acted alongside Siddique, who had openly backed Dileep at the time of the actor abduction case.

Responding to this Parvathy said, “Even during her promotional interviews, I saw headlines that she has mentioned about associating with Siddique for a movie, who is also a #me too accused. Though in the interview Vidhu had spoken about how women like her and myself were often forced to work with detractors. The title of the interview was misleading so as to make it sound accusatory. On December 14, 2019, I had called up Vidhu to talk this over and we had a friendly chat. When I voiced my concern she told me that she was misquoted to make the headline clickbait. The telephonic chat ended with a promise to meet soon. The warm and friendly tone of this entire conversation was somehow missing in her resignation letter.”

The actor said she has always respected filmmakers and their time. “ I know Vidhu to be a very vocal, communicative person who voices her thoughts quite openly, so it hurts me that she did not speak to me about whatever issues she had with me. I owe my work to filmmakers. I am immensely grateful to every filmmaker who gives me opportunities to collaborate with them, whether they work or not. I feel dismayed on realising that any filmmaker whose offers I have declined would feel slighted. Because that has never been my intention. I need them more than they need me,” she said.

Filmmaker Geetu Mohandas has issued a strongly-worded response to an allegation against her raised by costume designer Stephy Xavior about non-payment of remuneration in Geetu’s much-acclaimed work Moothon.

The controversy started after Ms.Xavior posted on her Facebook that a prominent member of the Women in Cinema Collective(WCC) had denied her payment. She neither mentioned the name of Ms. Mohandas nor the film. The allegation was made soon after director Vidhu Vincent made public her letter resigning from WCC.

In her statement, Geetu Mohandas said that the costume designer’s statement was absolutely false. She said that the costume design for the entire film was done by Maxima Basu and that Ms.Xavior was engaged for a small portion when the former had gone on maternity leave. However, due to creative differences, the filmmaker decided not to seek Ms.Xavior’s assistance.

She also stressed that women’s lynching women is not okay. The filmmaker concluded the post saying that she has no intention of hurting Stephy Xàvior. “So kindly observe that this is exactly what we should not be doing to each other. Women lynching women. If my actions have hurt you I am still ready to meet you for a conversation. I wish you all the best. A special request to all my closest industry friends – Please do not share this post in solidarity with me because we must collectively put an end to this virtual mob mentality and alienating people! I trust this post will resound to the right eyes and ears,” she said.

Here is costume designer Stephy Xavior post on the allegations:

The Woman in Cinema Collective (WCC) has come forward wielding its support to Shamna Kasim over the arrest of fraudsters who attempted to extort money. The organization heaped Shamna with praises for her daring move, which has exposed the extent of crime against women present in the society. While taking the social media space, WCC also maintained that the government should pay attention to the Hema Commission report. They also raised the demand for a Special Tribunal in this context.

Urging the government to take immediate action regarding this, the WCC social media post praised Shamna for taking legal actions against those who tried to cheat her. It was the timely intervention made by Shamna and family, which helped police catch the perpetrators. With Shamna’s complaint hitting headlines, police has started receiving several other complaints from various corners of the society.

Several young women, who primarily work in the modeling field, have come forward registering their complaint. This also prompted police officials to lead the investigation that caught a group of fraudsters, some of whom also works in the film field as well. The investigation is going on and earlier this day, the wife of prime accused, Rafeeq, came forward and said that Rafeeq had a long history as a trickster.

Kochi police is now taking the statement of Tik Tok fame Yasir, a Kasragod native. The accusers used Yasir’s photo to extort money from the actor. The police also have obtained information about the person who reached Shamna’s house, introducing him as producer.

Meanwhile FEFKA has given memo to production controllers directing them not to give actors’ numbers to any strangers. Many including casting director have been asked to register in FEFKA. People who have registered will be permitted to work. The directors’ body launched a women’s wing to inquire about the authenticity of casting direcotrs. They are also planning to make an awareness short film directed by Jomon T John, starring Anna Ben.
