BJP leader Khushbu Sundar met with an accident, when a tanker rammed into her vehicle on Wednesay morning. The accident happened near Melmaruvathur town in Tamil Nadu.

Khushbu Sunday escaped unhurt. Police have launched an investigation into the accident.

In a tweet, Khushbu Sundar said, “Request the press to understand that a container rammed into me and not the other way. My car was on the move in the right lane and this container came from nowhere and rammed into me. Police are investigating n questioning the driver to rule out any foul play.”

Met with an accident near Melmarvathur..a tanker rammed into us.With your blessings and God's grace I am safe.
Khushbhu Sundar was on her way to Cuddalore to participate in BJP’s Vel Yatra (Victory Spear March) campaign in Tamil Nadu ahead of the assembly election when the accident took place.

Ms Sundar, said she will proceed to Cuddalore to participate in the event and that the police are investigating the accident.

The Tamil Nadu BJP is holding the yatra despite the state government banning it. “Vetri Vel Yatra”, planned from November 6 to December 6, was conceptualised in honour of Lord Muruga known for his “Vel” or spear.

The Vel Yatra is seen as an attempt by BJP to consolidate Hindu votes in the state.

The ruling AIADMK government had denied permission for the yatra in view of the COVID-19 situation. However the BJP asserted its right to hold the event. The BJP said its rally- an annual exercise- was against what it called the anti-Hindu agenda of some parties.

Khushbhu Sundar,50, changed camp from the Congress and joined BJP months before the Tamil Nadu polls, saying that she felt pushed and suppressed by the Congress.

She is now one of the prominent faces of the party in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu would go for polls in May next year and the BJP, which has meager presence in the state, has brought in many faces ahead of the election.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday rejected the three language policy as mentioned in the National Education Policy (NEP).

The CM said that schools in the state will continue to follow the two-language policy instead.
The new NEP, which Palaniswami described as disappointing, was unveiled, late July and is yet to be implemented.

Tamil Nadu CM pointed out that the previous state governments opposed the three-language formula and the imposition of Hindi. In 1965, when the Center attempted to make Hindi, India’s official language, protests had erupted in TN, Palaniswami said.

He said that the Prime Minister should reconsider the three-language policy and allow states to implement their own policy on the subject.

The CM had also written to the Prime Minister in June 2019 saying that Tamil will be following only two language policies in the state.

Palaniswami’s statement came a day after Union Minister for Education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said the Center would not force any language on states to dispel fears that the Center is forcing it on the states.

In a tweet to former Union minister from the state Pon Radhakrishnan, Nishank said he was looking forward to the guidance of the ex-central minister in implementing NEP in Tamil Nadu “I once again like to insist that the central government will not impose any language on any state,” he said.
