The makers said that they are keen to release the film in theaters first in an aim to revive Tamil film industry. They didn’t deny that a popular OTT platform has approached them to buy the digital streaming rights of the film.

Producer Xavior Britto of XB Film Creations, in a statement, said, “As we continue to battle the pandemic, we hope you are all safe and doing fine. We understand and can feel the amount of excitement among the audience to celebrate our #Master in theatres. We await the Big Day to come, as much as you do. With lot of rumours surfacing in the past few days, we would like to clarify our stand on it. Though we have an offer from a reputed OTT service provider, we prefer to the theatrical release, which is the need of the hour for the industry to survive the on-going crisis. We also request the theatre owners to stand with us and provide their support for reviving the Tamil Film Industry. We hope to reach out to you soon, with the good news. Stay safe (sic).”

‘Master’ director Lokesh Kanagaraj, shared the statement on Twitter.

The film was supposed to hit the screens in April , but the lockdown to due to coronavirus pandemic pushed makers to push the release date.

On November 14, the makers of the film unveiled the film’s teaser which has been trending on the internet .

Joining the growing list of film industry names to have spoken out against the custodial torture and death of Jayaraj and Bennicks in Tuticorin(Thoothukudi) district, filmmaker Hari, who directed several hit cop-centric films, released a statement expressing anguish and hurt at the turn of events.

The man who created the highly successful Singam film franchise, and the Vikram-starrer Saamy and its sequel, said in a statement that he wished for such an incident would not repeat.

“An incident like what happened in Sathankulam should not happen ever again to Tamils. The only way to ensure that is to give maximum punishment to those guilty of the crime,” the filmmaker said in a handwritten note that was released via social media platforms.

“Such actions by a few cops have brought disrepute to the entire police department. Today, I feel deeply hurt that I made five films glorifying the police department,” Hari wrote, expressing his regret.

Actor Suriya, who is the face of the Singam franchise in Tamil also released a statement of condemnation in which he labelled the incident “organised crime”. He pointed out that the doctor who gave a clean bill of health, the district magistrate who “mechanically” remanded the duo to custody and prison officials who did not report the incident were all equally culpable.
