Oman’s Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs has said that, in line with COVID-19 precautionary measures, it will take a suitable decision on the opening of mosques and areas of worship with effect from mid-November 2020. The decision will take consideration of infection peak reports to be issued by the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling COVID-related developments, the Ministry added in its statement on September 28.

According to Oman News Agency, the Ministry reaffirmed its keenness to reopen mosques and worship areas shut down due to COVID-19.

The Supreme Committee, which convened on September 22, expressed anxiety about a surge in infection cases and associated deaths. Oman recorded 607 new cases on September 28, taking its total to 98,057 with 924 deaths.

The Sultanate plans to resume international flights on October 1 and also lift the lockdown in Dhofar governorate, in place since March, on that day.

Public transport resumed on September 27. Last week, health authorities announced that sports activities could be held without spectators.

The Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from Covid-19 which met on September 7 under the Chairmanship of Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, Minister of Interior, has decided to set October 1 as the date for starting scheduled international flights. This will be in accordance with health data about specific destinations and in line with agreements with other aviation companies.

Hence, it is likely that Oman will categorise destinations based on the scale of the coronavirus outbreak in each country.

Oman had closed its airports in March following the outbreak of the pandemic.

Flights have remained open for citizens and residents, and anyone entering Oman must quarantine for 14 days, either at home or in a hotel. All foreign citizens arriving in the country must have health insurance. In July, Oman Airports requested bids for the installation of PCR testing solutions, which could mean that travellers will be tested for the virus upon arrival.
