Suriya, the Nadipin Nayakan of Tamil cinema, is currently awaiting the release of his new movie Sooraraii Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the release of the film is postponed, and it will hit the theaters once the movie halls in the nation get reopened. The recent news about Suriya is regarding his upcoming movie which will be directed by Pandiraj.

This is for the second time that Suriya is joining hands with Pandiraj. In the 2015 movie, Pasanga 2, Suriya had played an extended cameo. The film was well-received by critics, and audiences praised Suriya for acting and producing such a movie in which little children played the lead roles.

According to the latest updates, Sun Pictures will be producing this upcoming movie with Suriya and Pandiraj. Earlier, Sun Pictures have distributed two Suriya movies, Ayan and Singam, and both these films emerged as huge blockbusters at the box-office. And this is for the first time that Sun Pictures is directly producing a movie with Suriya in the lead role.

The expectations surrounding this upcoming movie is already sky high, as it marks the union of two perfectionists in Kollywood. Pandiraj is a filmmaker who is known for his uncompromising cinematic language, while Suriya is such an actor who used to work hard to portray challenging roles on screen.

Pandiraj’s previous release was Namma Veettu Pillai that featured Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. Even though the film received mixed reviews from audiences, it emerged as a decent grosser at the box-office.

Joining the growing list of film industry names to have spoken out against the custodial torture and death of Jayaraj and Bennicks in Tuticorin(Thoothukudi) district, filmmaker Hari, who directed several hit cop-centric films, released a statement expressing anguish and hurt at the turn of events.

The man who created the highly successful Singam film franchise, and the Vikram-starrer Saamy and its sequel, said in a statement that he wished for such an incident would not repeat.

“An incident like what happened in Sathankulam should not happen ever again to Tamils. The only way to ensure that is to give maximum punishment to those guilty of the crime,” the filmmaker said in a handwritten note that was released via social media platforms.

“Such actions by a few cops have brought disrepute to the entire police department. Today, I feel deeply hurt that I made five films glorifying the police department,” Hari wrote, expressing his regret.

Actor Suriya, who is the face of the Singam franchise in Tamil also released a statement of condemnation in which he labelled the incident “organised crime”. He pointed out that the doctor who gave a clean bill of health, the district magistrate who “mechanically” remanded the duo to custody and prison officials who did not report the incident were all equally culpable.
