Malayalam-Tamil actor Shamna Kasim, also known as Poorna, was in the news after she made a complaint against a gang of impostors who attempted to extort money from her and her family. On June 30, she issued a statement on social media, to clarify certain rumours and requested the media to give her and her family some privacy.

Shamna, in her statement, revealed that she has come across a few reports which suggested that she knew the culprits personally.

Thanking fans for their support, she wrote, “Thank you for the wonderful support my dear friends and well-wishers during this ordeal. I just would like to clarify on few unreal reports in few media relating my case. I do not know the culprit and gang who are part of this blackmailing saga hence I am pleading to all my media friends not to propagate such fake news linking me with the culprit (sic).”

She requested everyone to give her and her family privacy until the police are done with the investigation. Shamna said that she’ll hold a press meet after the case is closed.

Shamna Kasim wrapped up her statement stating that women should learn a lesson from her story in fighting the fraudsters.

The probe in the blackmailing case of actor Shamna Kasim is taking new turns as there is involvement of film actors. As per the latest reports, the police have summoned actor Dharmajan to the commissioner’s office in Kochi. His statement in the case will be recorded. The police have directed him to appear directly to the commissioner’s office.

Police summoned the actor after they came to know that the actor is close to one of the accused in the extortion case, P Haris. The police have obtained information that the accused had contacted film actors for gold smuggling. Based on this information, Dharmajan has been asked to appear.

The probe is moving on to film actors as the police acquired information that the accused in the case had contacted them. The police had collected details from four actors in addition to Dharmajan. These actors have accompanied Shamna for stage shows abroad.

P Haris, a hair stylist in M’Town, who allegedly have involvement in the crime, has been taken into custody. He has close contacts with make-up artists and film stars. He is native of Thrissur. The police expect to get crucial details from him.

After Shamna Kasim’s mother filed a case on June 24 in Kochi against six people for allegedly threatening the star in an attempt to extort money, the police team reportedly arrested the main accused, Muhammed Shareef, who is the mastermind behind the crime, along with six others. Rafique who faked his identity and approached the actor with a marriage proposal is another major player in the crime. Now as per latest reports, the police will be recording Shamna Kasim’s statement today in the extortion case.

Shamna, who has been filming in Hyderabad, will be reaching Kochi today to give her statement. As she was filming in Hyderabad, the actor will have to be under quarantine as per guidelines and hence the police will be recording the statement online, through video conferencing.

The whole incident came to light when Shamna’s family filed a complaint. As per reports, the accused approached the actress’ family with a marriage proposal before the lockdown. The con artists claimed that they are from a well-known respectable family from Kozhikode. After developing close connections with the family through phone calls, the group visited Shamna Kasim’s home, captured pictures and videos of the star’s home, and later threatened her and demanded Rs 1 lakh as per the complaint.

The police suspect that the accused are members of a thriving gold smuggling and sex-racket based in Kochi.
