Members of President Donald Trump’s failed reelection campaign had key roles in orchestrating the Washington rally that spawned a deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol, according to an Associated Press review of records.

A pro-Trump nonprofit group called Women for America First hosted the “Save America Rally” on Jan. 6 at the Ellipse, an oval-shaped, federally owned patch of land near the White House.

But an attachment to the National Park Service public gathering permit granted to the group lists more than half a dozen people in staff positions for the event who just weeks earlier had been paid thousands of dollars by Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign. Other staff scheduled to be “on-site” during the demonstration have close ties to the White House.

Since the siege, several of them have scrambled to distance themselves from the rally.

The riot at the Capitol, incited by Trump’s comments before and during his speech at the Ellipse, has led to a reckoning unprecedented in American history. The president told the crowd to march to the Capitol and that “you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.”

A week after the rally, Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives, becoming the first U.S. president ever to be impeached twice. But the political and legal fallout may stretch well beyond Trump, who will exit the White House on Wednesday before Democrat Joe Biden takes the oath of office. Trump had refused for nearly two months to accept his loss in the 2020 election to the former vice president.

United Sates President Donald Trump likely to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barret to succeed Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court, which will cement a solid conservative majority in the apex court.

The president said this week that he will announce his pick to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg and various US media said it would be the 48-year-old conservative judge. If Amy Coney is confirmed the court would shift to a 6-3 conservative majority.

Asked by journalists if Barrett will indeed be nominated, Trump responded: “I haven’t said that.”
But he added that he had already made a decision “in my own mind” and that Barrett is “outstanding.”

Democratic opponents, led by presidential candidate Joe Biden, have demanded that Republicans back off on replacing liberal icon Ginsburg — who died last week — until after the November 3 election, after it’s determined whether Trump will get a second term.

Leaders of the Republican majority in the Senate, which is tasked with confirming Supreme Court nominees, said they have enough support to hold a vote on the nomination either before the election or at worst during the “lame duck” session between the election and the inauguration of the next president in January.

“We will certainly do that this year,” Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell said.

Barrett, a law professor, was only appointed to the bench for the first time in 2017. A deeply conservative Catholic, she is considered hostile to abortion rights — a key issue for many Republicans.

As the United States is all set to select their next president on November 3, recent comments from reigning president Donald Trump hints at the fact that he does not believe in American democracy. The president also declined to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses the upcoming presidential election.

“We’re going to have to see what happens. You know that I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster,” said Donald Trump responding to a question about whether he would commit to a peaceful transfer of power.

The comments from Donald Trump have literally shocked political experts, as this is for the first time that a sitting president in the US is making such irresponsible comments about voting in presidential elections.

Donald Trump also criticized the mail voting system that will be introduced in the United States this year due to the coronavirus outbreak. According to Trump, widespread mail voting could lead to massive fraud.

This is not the first time that Donald Trump is commenting on his non-commitment to carry out a peaceful transfer of power. Last July, Trump similarly refused to commit to accepting the results of the presidential elections.

“I have to see. Look … I have to see. No, I’m not going to just say yes. I’m not going to say no, and I didn’t last time either,” said Trump.

However, the Joe Biden camp claimed that the American people are wise enough to escort trespassers out of the White House.
