Meena, the dazzling starlet in the South Indian film industry is celebrating her 45th birthday. On this auspicious day, the actress received a special birthday wish from Mohanlal, one of her most popular onscreen pair. After conveying the wish, Mohanlal also welcomed the actress to the upcoming movie Drishyam 2, a sequel to Drishyam, where the duo shared screen space as husband and wife.

In Drishyam 2, Meena will be reprising the role of Rani, wife of Georgekutty (Mohanlal). The 2013 blockbuster ended when Georgekutty successfully covered up a murder jointly committed by Rani and their daughter.

Drishyam 2 will be directed by Jeethu Joseph, who also directed the prequel. Will Jeethu Joseph make police officers retrieve the corpse Georgekutty buried in the foundation of the new police station? We will have to wait and watch.

The shooting of Drishyam 2 began a couple of days back. According to reports, the shooting is being carried out under strict coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Before joining the shooting, all the crew members were tested for coronavirus, and none of the members in the group are allowed to go out until the completion of the filming.

Mohanlal is currently awaiting the release of his mega-budget movie Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham, directed by Priyadarshan. The film was originally scheduled to hit the theaters, but due to the coronavirus outbreak, Priyadarshan and Antony Perumbavoor decided to postpone its release. As the film is made on a large canvas, the makers may not opt for an OTT release, and they are expected to wait until theaters in the country get fully operational.

The news regarding Soorarai Pottru’s online release was initially shared by musician GV Prakash Kumar on his Facebook page. The news soon went like wildfire on social media platforms, and people are now slamming the makers for making such a decision.

It should be noted that Soorarai Pottru is widely considered Suriya’s comeback movie by his fans. The actor has been now going through the toughest phase in his career, as most of his recent films failed to make any impacts at the box-office. Suriya fans were in a hope that the actor will reclaim his stardom by setting the theaters on fire with Soorarai Pottru.

Suriya fans argue that films like Soorarai Pottru demands theatrical watch, and it will be sheer injustice if the makers release it via OTT platforms. Recently, during an online interaction with fans, Suriya himself had claimed that he is eagerly awaiting to watch the movie on big screens.

Soorarai Pottri is directed by Sudha Kongara. The film is based on the life of GR Gopinath, Air Deccan founder. Apart from Suriya, this movie also stars Aparna Balamurali, Mohan Babu, Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Jackie Shroff, and Sampath Raj in other prominent roles.

The film is jointly produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga under the banners 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment respectively.

Anupama Parameswaran will play the lead female role in the film which is about the love and marriage of Ashok, a countryman. The film is scripted by Vineeth Krishnan and the cinematography is by Sajad Kaku.

The music for the film is by Sreehari K Nair and editing by Appu Bhattathiri. The film stars Shine Tom Chacko, Krishnashankar, Vijayaraghavan, Indrans, Sudheesh, Sreelakshmi, Nayana and Sreedha Sivadas.

The film is being released on the OTT platform amid a dispute between the producers and theatre owners who had made it clear that they will not cooperate in future with the producers going ahead with OTT releases. The film industry is eager to know the decision of the theatre owners regarding the OTT release of ‘Maniyarayile Asokan’. Producers are preparing to try their luck on the OTT platform when theatres are closed during the COVID era.
