Kochi: The Cochin International Airport witnessed yet another incident of a hoax bomb threat on Monday, with a passenger claiming he was carrying a ‘live bomb’. The passenger, Vijay Mandhayan, made the verbal threat before boarding his flight.

“A verbal bomb threat was received from a passenger during secondary ladder point check of Vistara flight,” CIAL said in a communique. “I’m carrying a live bomb,” the passenger reportedly said in a casual remark. The flight was scheduled to leave for Mumbai from Kochi at 3.50 pm.
Following the incident, which was declared ‘non-specific,’ a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened. The flight departed at 4.19 pm. On Saturday, a Kochi-Bengaluru Alliance flight underwent a BTAC following a bomb threat.
The Alliance flight remained grounded for nearly five hours following the threat. In one week, nearly 100 domestic airline flights have received bomb threats at various Indian airports.Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said on Monday that the government has planned to place the perpetrators on a no-fly list.

Kochi : A bomb threat assessment (BTAC) was done at Cochin International Airport (CIAL) following a social media post aimed at a Kochi-Bengaluru Alliance flight on Saturday.CIAL said a bomb threat was received for Alliance flight 9I 506 COK-BLR. Following this, the assessment committee “recommended enhancing security arrangements of passengers and baggage by increasing percentage of physical check and ETD check … aircraft search,” CIAL said in a press release.
“The bomb threat was received by the Twitter handle of Alliance Air (along with multiple airports and airlines). Since this route was specific to Kochi, BTAC was convened here along with other airports,” CIAL said. CIAL added that the bomb threat turned out to be a hoax and the flight took off from Kochi at 5.29 pm after nearly five hours delay.
More than 30 flights of various Indian airlines, including Vistara, Air India and IndiGo, received bomb threats on Saturday, reports said. This week, at least 70 flights in India received bomb threats, most of which turned out to be hoax.While most of the threats, like in the case of the Kochi flight, were made on social media, in one of the flights, a note was found in the lavatory saying there was a bomb.
Vistara reported that five of its flights on international routes received security threats through social media, while IndiGo said at least four of its flights got security-related alerts.

KSRTC is now available for new generation celebrations such as ‘Save the Date’ and ‘Photo Shoot’. Ganesh, a native of Vamanapuram, and Lakshmi, a native of Inchakal, who are engaged to be married on January 18, 2021, were the first to do a Save the Date photo shoot.

The service can be availed over a distance of 50 km at a rent of Rs 4,000 for eight hours. Additional rent must be paid for the extra kilometers. The discounted rate is set for until December. The scheme is being implemented on a special commission basis for agents and those who book in advance.

This scheme was formulated and implemented by KSRTC for the purpose of increasing the non-ticket revenue of the corporation. The bus will be rented for wedding, pre-wedding, post-wedding shoots and parties, including birthdays.

Those who rent it get the opportunity for celebrations on the second floor of the bus and travel with family on the ground floor. KSRTC is implementing this project on the model of Afternoon Tea Bus Tour in London. Several agencies have already booked buses for the photo shoot in Thiruvananthapuram. If successful, the KSRTC project will be extended to Kochi and Kozhikode.

India’s Department of Military Affairs has hastened the process of restructuring the armed forces, as a new air defence command under the Indian Air Force (IAF) may be set up at Prayagraj, around the second week of October 2020.

“The work has been hastened to prepare the structure of the command under an Air Force officer. Efforts are being made to put everything together and announce the creation of the air defence command at Prayagraj around the Air Force Day on October 8 this year,” government sources said.

The air defence command is proposed to be set up alongside the Central Command Headquarters of the IAF which controls important air bases including Agra, Gwalior and Bareilly.

The aim of the command is to combine the resources of the three services under one command and activate it to protect the air space of the country.

A study in this regard was done by the IAF’s Vice-Chief Air Marshal HS Arora which also suggested the structure of the proposed command, comprising assets of all the three services.

The Department of Military Affairs under Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has been given the mandate to create joint military commands along with theatre commands.

The CDS is also working on the creation of the combined maritime command which would come up either at Kochi in Kerala or Karwar in Karnataka.

Each service has its individual air defence set-up. The air defence command would integrate the air defence assets of the Army, Air Force and Navy and jointly provide air defence cover to the country.

The CDS has also made it clear to the armed forces that he would not create any additional post at a three-star level for manning any of the new commands and the new formations would be raised from the existing resources only.
Meanwhile, for protecting the air space of the country, a proposal for the acquisition of two new PHALCON Airborne Early Warning ad Control Systems from Israel and Russia has reached the Cabinet Committee on Security and may be taken up for clearance soon.

For Indian residents who are planning to return to the UAE, a valid pre-departure General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) approval is required if his/her destination is Dubai or Sharjah, according to a leading airline.

Air India Express has said that passengers need a Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) approval to enter any other airport in the country. According to the FAQs posted on the Air India Express blog for travellers on the India-UAE sector, the airline has said only resident permit holders can book tickets on these flights.

All passengers landing in Abu Dubai, Dubai and Sharjah must have a negative COVID-19 test result from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-approved laboratories. The UAE government has permitted entry into the country for a limited period between July 12 and July 26. A UAE resident permit holder returning to Dubai should carry:

(i) A valid ICA or GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs) approval if you are going to Dubai;

(ii) A valid Negative COVID-19 PCR test report from a government-approved laboratory;

(iii) Health Declaration and Quarantine Undertaking forms to be filled and submitted at the Dubai Airport on arrival and;

(iv) A downloaded COVID-19 – DXB Smart App.

However, passengers with expired ICA/ GDRFA approval will not be accepted at check-in. If you are a resident permit holder returning to Abu Dhabi you should carry all of the above and also must have an ICA approval. A passenger returning to Sharjah must carry all the above documents, but approval can be from ICA or GDRFA.

A valid Negative COVID-19 PCR test report from a government-approved laboratory, no older than 96 hours prior to departure, is mandatory for travel to Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

When you arrive in Dubai, you must take a PCR test at the airport and remain in your residence until you receive the test result. If the test result is positive, you will be required to undergo isolation and follow the Dubai Health Authority guidelin

PCR testing and temperature screening is in operation at Abu Dhabi airport and in Sharjah, PCR testing is undertaken on arrival. Another important point to note is that currently, only resident permit holders returning to UAE are allowed to travel for a limited period from July 12 to July 26 from India.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on July 11 detained two key accused in Kerala gold smuggling case, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair, from Bengaluru in a swift operation.

The two accused were on the run for the last six days after the Customs Department seized 30 kg of gold from an air cargo consignment in Thiruvananthapuram. They will be brought to Kochi in the early hours of Sunday, said an official. It is, however, not clear how the duo slipped out of Thiruvananthapuram, which is under a triple lockdown with an aim to contain the spread of coronavirus disease, and reached Karnataka.

The NIA had taken up the case on July 10 and filed first information reports against four persons in the case. In the FIRs, Sarith Kumar, a former employee of the consular office, who is now in the custody of the customs, is named first accused; Swapna Suresh is the second; elusive smuggling-kingpin Fazil Pareed is the third; and Suresh’s friend Sandeep Nair is the fourth accused. The FIRs were filed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

It is the first time that the premier agency, which handles cases related to national security and terror, is investigating a gold smuggling case. In the FIRs, NIA said the accused were part of a well-entrenched smuggling racket.

The Kerala Police had set up a special group to arrest Swapna Suresh and Sandeep on July 11. The DGP had entrusted a special investigation team under the leadership of Kochi City Deputy Police Commissioner G. Poonkuzhali with the task of apprehending the accused.

The Customs authorities had requested the Kochi City Police Commissioner all help for the arrest of the suspects in an email by afternoon.
It is then that the NIA team arrested the accused in Bangalore.

Swapna Suresh is a pivotal member of a gang engaged in smuggling gold, and that she has conspired and actively participated to facilitate the act of smuggling, according to the customs report submitted to the Kerala high court in the gold smuggling case on Juley 10.
The report was submitted in court while considering Swapna’s bail plea. The case will next be heard on July 14..
The seizure of 30 kg gold from a diplomatic consignment at the Trivandrum International Airport on Sunday has snowballed into a major political controversy in Kerala as the prime suspect, Swapna.
In an audio message on July 9, Swapna, who is on the run, said she had no role to play in the matter.
The Customs report states, “From the evidence gathered so far, it appears Swapna Suresh is a pivotal member of a gang engaged in smuggling of large quantities of gold to India by defrauding government agencies and customs department using the cover of diplomatic protection. And further she has conspired and actively participated to facilitate this act of smuggling.”
The report says that by 3.15 pm on July 5, Suresh had switched off her mobile phone and has been absconding since. Customs officers tried their best to serve her notice in all her know addresses.
The report says it is necessary to interrogate her in custody to unearth the correct facts.
“Additionally, involvement of higher government officials cannot be ruled out at this stage, which can only be unearthed if the investigation agency is permitted to interrogate Swapna,” it added.
The NIA has registered a case against Suresh as it is critical to national security and India’s ties with friendly states. The probe agency has also appealed that her bail application be dismissed.

After Shamna Kasim’s mother filed a case on June 24 in Kochi against six people for allegedly threatening the star in an attempt to extort money, the police team reportedly arrested the main accused, Muhammed Shareef, who is the mastermind behind the crime, along with six others. Rafique who faked his identity and approached the actor with a marriage proposal is another major player in the crime. Now as per latest reports, the police will be recording Shamna Kasim’s statement today in the extortion case.

Shamna, who has been filming in Hyderabad, will be reaching Kochi today to give her statement. As she was filming in Hyderabad, the actor will have to be under quarantine as per guidelines and hence the police will be recording the statement online, through video conferencing.

The whole incident came to light when Shamna’s family filed a complaint. As per reports, the accused approached the actress’ family with a marriage proposal before the lockdown. The con artists claimed that they are from a well-known respectable family from Kozhikode. After developing close connections with the family through phone calls, the group visited Shamna Kasim’s home, captured pictures and videos of the star’s home, and later threatened her and demanded Rs 1 lakh as per the complaint.

The police suspect that the accused are members of a thriving gold smuggling and sex-racket based in Kochi.
