The overall pass percentage in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12th Board Result is 87.33%, which has dropped by 5.38% from last year. The overall pass percentage in 2022 was 92.71%. The highest performance was witnessed in Trivandrum, Kerala at 99.91% overall pass percentage followed by Bengaluru 98.64%, Chennai 97.40%, and Delhi West 93.24%.

Students can check their scorecard on the official websites of CBSE – results.cbse.nic.in and cbse.gov.in. The CBSE Class 12th Results 2023 can also be viewed on DigiLocker – digilocker.gov.in. Furthermore, students may also check their results on SMS and IVRS.

A total of 16.60 lakh students appeared for the CBSE Class 12 exams this year. The CBSE Class 12th Board examination were held from February 15, 2023 to April 5, 2023. The results were declared on May 12, 2023. Total number of schools which held the CBSE Class 12th examination is 16,728.

A Dubai-based banker, Retesh James Gupta, has been honoured by Dubai Police for his honesty. Despite being between jobs then, the 37-year-old Kolkata native returned a bag containing $14,000 (Dh51,492) in cash, gold jewellery worth Dh200,000 and three American passports to its owner.
Brigadier Yousef Abdullah Salim Al Adidi, Director of Al Qusais Police Station, honoured Retesh with a certificate of appreciation. Retesh is thrilled with the recognition from Dubai Police, which studiously honours such acts of honesty by residents.

Retesh lives in Dubai with his wife Aparupa and three-year-old son Vivaan. He had found the backpack containing the valuables on his car bonnet when he returned from a salon in Al Qusais near the Metro station after 10.30 pm. Though he waited for half an hour expecting someone to come and claim the bag, no one turned up. He then opened the bag to check for any identity or contact details, and was bewildered to see cash and valuables in the bag.

So Retesh drove to the Al Qusais Police Station and handed the bag over to the police officer on duty, who took his contact details. The next day, the owner of the bag, a Bangladeshi American, called home and thanked him profusely. They could not meet as he was travelling back to the United States. He had come to Dubai with his family to visit his parents residing here.

Soon Retesh got a new job offer from a bank, which he believes is a “reward from God in difficult times”, Gulf News reported.

In December 2019, Abhishek Nad Gobindhan, a bus driver with Dubai RTA, was rewarded for his honesty by Dubai Police. He had found Dh20,000 after passengers left the bus and handed it over to the Naif Police Station.

In the sweltering summer heat, a Malayali businessman in Dubai has scaled on foot 1,934 metres on the Jebel Jais mountain in Ras Al Khaimah, the highest peak in the UAE. Shafi told Khaleej Times on August 21 that he is dedicating his run to the nation’s frontline workers who have been battling COVID-19.

What is unique is that the 37-year-old ran barefoot non-stop for 21km. In the last 100 metres of the run, his children aged 10 and seven ran with him.  Shafi said that the total runtime was two hours and 50 minutes, and he had a support vehicle trailing behind throughout the run.

Shafi began running up to Jebel Jais at 4.30am and completed it at 7.20am before the roads got heated in the summer sun. His coach Dr Mohandas, a professional triathlon running coach, was also with him during the run.

He dedicated the run to frontline workers to thank them for the sacrifices they have made for the public.

Shafi, the owner of an IT firm, has been running since 2012. When he was working for another company earlier, they had organised a team to do a 3km fun run for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. He said it gave him an incredible amount of positivity and energy and he decided to take up the activity.

After that, he has run the full Dubai Marathon, the Chennai Marathon in India and the Abu Dhabi Marathon. He was supposed to do the Berlin Marathon this year, but it got cancelled due to the pandemic.

Soon he began running barefoot. “Unlike running with shoes, the mind is very alert and aware when I am running barefoot. You need to keep a lookout for things on the street,” he said.

Shafi said he doesn’t find cushioning a problem as he lands on his toes first while running barefoot.

As part of his initiative, he wants to do to a barefoot run from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. Next year, he hopes to travel to Kazakhstan for the ‘Ironman Triathlon’.

Shafi told this correspondent that “an Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organised by the World Triathlon Corporation, consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile run, raced in that order. It is widely considered as one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world.”

The producers of Animated TV comedy ‘The Simpsons’ have announced that they will no longer use white actors to voice characters of colour.

The Simpsons has received criticism for years for having Hank Azaria voice for the role of Indian character Apu. In January , Azaria said that he is stepping down from the role after it has been hugely criticized for the negative portrayal of Indian-Americans. Mr Azaria, was very upset as the portrayal of character Apu reinforced racial stereotypes. He also voiced the Simpsons characters of Black police officer Lou.

This comes at a time when the whole world is in mass protest over the killing of George Floyd, a black man who died while in US police custody. His death has led to cancellation of many controversial portrayals of people of colour in the entertainment industry.

The Simpsons is the longest-running show on American television, going for 30 years, and is syndicated in more than 100 countries.

Diesel price on June 21 hit a fresh record high after rates were hiked by 60 paise a litre while petrol price was up 35 paise, taking the cumulative increase in rates in 15 days to Rs.8.88 a litre and Rs.7.97 respectively.
Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to Rs.79.23 a litre from Rs.78.88, while diesel rates were increased to Rs.78.27 a litre from Rs.77.67, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.
Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.
Taxes make up for nearly two-thirds of the retail selling price. As much as Rs.50.69 per litre, or 64 per cent, in petrol price is due to taxes – Rs.32.98 is the central excise duty and Rs.17.71 is local sales tax or VAT.
Over 63 per cent of the retail selling price of diesel is taxes. Out of the total tax incidence of Rs.49.43 a litre, Rs.31.83 is by way of central excise and Rs.17.60 is VAT.
Petrol in Mumbai costs Rs.86.04 a litre and diesel is priced at Rs.76.69.
The 15th daily increase in rates since oil companies on June 7 restarted revising prices in line with costs after ending an 82-day hiatus in rate revision, has taken diesel prices to fresh highs. Petrol price too is at a two-year high.
Prior to the current rally, the peak diesel rates had touched was on October 16, 2018 when prices had climbed to Rs.75.69 a litre in Delhi. The highest-ever petrol price was on October 4, 2018 when rates soared to Rs.84 a litre in Delhi.
When rates had peaked in October 2018, the government had cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs.1.50 per litre each. State-owned oil companies were asked to absorb another Re.1 a litre to help cut retail rates by Rs.2.50 a litre.
Oil companies had quickly recouped the Re 1 and the government in July 2019 raised excise duty by Rs.2 a litre.
The 82-day freeze in rates this year was imposed in mid-March soon after the government hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel to shore up additional finances.
The government on March 14 hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs.3 a litre each and then again on May 5 by a record Rs.10 a litre in case of petrol and Rs.13 on diesel. The two hikes gave the government Rs.2 lakh crore in additional tax revenues.
Oil PSUs Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL), instead of passing on the excise duty hikes to customers, adjusted them against the fall in the retail rates that was warranted because of a decline in international oil prices to two-decade lows.
International oil prices have since rebounded and oil firms are now adjusting retail rates in line with them. In 15 hikes, petrol price has gone up by Rs.7.97 a litre and diesel by Rs.8.88 a litre.
