According to Variety, the series, which is based on the 2005 hit New Regency film, is due in 2022.

Glover and Waller-Bridge will star in and executive produce the series.

Former NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Stalke made the announcement via social media, posting a video to Instagram Stories with details of the project. Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke also posted the news of the new show to her Twitter account on Friday.

The new take on ‘Mr and Mrs. Smith’ is neither Glover nor Waller-Bridge’s first project with the studio. Waller-Bridge created and starred in the hit series ‘Fleabag,’ which collected six Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2019, while Glover’s musical film ‘Guava Island’ is also an Amazon Original.

The hit original ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ from Doug Liman starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and grossed almost USD 500 million worldwide.

Alfred Hitchcock also directed a screwball marriage comedy titled ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ in 1941, starring Robert Montgomery and Carole Lombard.

Hobbs & Shaw helmer David Leitch will direct and also supervise the script, which will be written by Zak Olkewicz.

The film is based on the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by bestselling author Kotaro Isaka. Ryosuke Saegusa and Yuma Terada of CTB Inc., who represent Isaka and the IP, are executive producers on the project.

Even though Sandra Bullock and Brad Pitt have been in the movie business for decades and rose to prominence in the early 90s, the two have never worked together.

Bullet Train will be the first feature film in which they will be seen sharing space on the screen. The only tie between the two Oscar-winning actors is Ocean’s Eleven female spin-off, Ocean’s Eight starring Sandra Bullock, which was actually a franchise which Brad Pitt helped launch when he starred in the Ocean’s Eleven remake in 2001.

According to Fox News, the 68-year-old star’s movie ‘Honest Thief’ shot to the top of the box office in October amid a slew of theatre closures that prompted several movie studios to postpone their major blockbuster releases until at least 2021, and now, the action thriller ‘The Marksman,’ has also reached the top of the charts.

According to Variety, the film debuted at No. 1 with USD 3.2 million in ticket sales and is expected to close out the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend with USD 3.7 million across 1,975 locations. That means it’s a likely contender to finally unseat ‘Wonder Woman: 1984’ in its third week in theatres.

As reported by Fox News, the Gal Gadot-led superhero movie surprised everyone by performing well at the box office in December despite also releasing for free to HBO Max subscribers in a bid to cultivate viewership at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has made going to the theatre a difficult prospect for most Americans.

However, as Variety notes, alongside films like ‘Wonder Woman: 1984,’ ‘Honest Thief’ and Robert De Niro’s ‘The War With Grandpa,’ ‘The Marksman’ joins the club of lowest-grossing box office toppers in modern history thanks to only 65 percent of theatres in the U.S. being open for business.

Currently, ‘Wonder Woman: 1984’ is in a bit of a race for a second during the holiday weekend with ‘The Croods: A New Age’ edging close to its expected total of USD 2.6 million. Meanwhile, ‘News of the World’ with Tom Hanks is likely to finish fourth.

Based on Shrabani Basu’s “Spy Princess: The Life of Noor Inayat Khan”, the project hails from writer Olivia Hetreed and Red Room Films, reported Deadline.

Khan was born in Moscow in 1914 to Indian father Hazrat Inayat Khan and American mother Ora Ray Baker.

She was sent to Nazi-occupied France in 1943 as an undercover radio operator for Britain’s Special Operations Executive (SOE).

But Khan was betrayed, arrested and killed in Dachau Concentration Camp at the age of 30.

“She was a fierce and amazing woman, the most unlikely heroine of World War 2. Sending women to the front line is controversial even now. Then it was unthinkable.

Sending a Sufi mystic, who won’t use a gun, daughter of a long-haired Indian Guru who preaches love and peace “ridiculous! “But Noor thrives, not in spite of her differences, but because of them,” Pinto, who will also serve as an executive producer on the series, said.

The 36-year-old actor said that she aims to explore Khan’s inner struggle and complex sense of duty with her portrayal.

Pinto is known for movies such as “Slumdog Millionaire”, “Immortals” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”.

The series will be directed by Anand Tucker, who previously helmed films like “Hilary and Jackie”, “Shopgirl” and “Leap Year”.

The life story of Khan was most recently depicted in a film by filmmaker Sarah Megan Thomas.

Actor Radhika Apte portrayed Khan in the movie, which was recently released on Amazon Prime Video.

Based on the popular musical stage play version of Roald Dahl’s classic story, the film is a Netflix and Working Title project.

Thompson will play Miss Trunchbull, the cruel headmistress and antagonist of the piece, reported Entertainment Weekly.

The story follows the titular five-year-old girl, who uses her powers of telekinesis to overcome bullies, including her family and her school’s principal Miss Trunchbull, and protect her friends.

Child star Alisha Weir will essay the role of Matilda in the movie, which will also feature Captain Marvel actor Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey, the kindly teacher who encourages Matilda and her telekinetic gifts.

Matthew Warchus, who directed the original play, will return to helm the feature adaptation.

Tony winner Dennis Kelly is also coming back to pen the screenplay.

Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title will produce the project with Jon Finn, and Luke Kelly of The Roald Dahl Story Company and Netflix.

As the two-and-a-half-minute trailer progresses, Marie comes to the conclusion, “You know what, Malcolm? I feel like once you know someone’s there for you and once you know they love you, you never actually think of them again. It’s not until you’re about to lose someone that you finally pay attention.”

The film follows a director’s relationship with his girlfriend was tested when they return home from a movie premiere and await responses from critics. According to the trailer, this is not a love story, this is a story of love.

Sam Levinson who directed the critically acclaimed series Euphoria helmed the project as writer and director.

Netflix acquired the film, which was shot on 35 mm with a small crew amid the COVID-19 pandemic, last September for $30 million following a bidding war between several distributors. The streamer plans to launch an Oscar campaign for the project.

Malayalis are celebrating the recent announcement of Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Jallikettu’ being the official Indian entry for the 93rd Academy Award 2021. Now that is a moment of happiness, but the journey forward will be an amalgamation of an aggressive PR, lots of money to splurge and business meetings in Hollywood. That is the reality and that is the way of Oscar for many years.

This is not the image Oscar want to project. The king of award shows, a glittery, glamourous evening of celebrating an art form- they are supposed to be recognising the best movie, the best performances, the best cinematography, the best costume design. However the ultimate winner is the “best Oscar campaign”.

In 2016, National Award winning filmmaker Vetri Maaran’s Tamil film ‘Visaranai’ was India’s official entry to the 89th Academy Awards. Although the film didn’t make it to the shortlist, Vetri Maaran made an honest attempt at campaigning for his film in Los Angeles.

In an interview, the director elaborated about the long tiring process of ‘wining and dining’ in Hollywood and what it takes to get their movie watched by Academy voters. Vetrimaran said that if you want to get noticed, be prepared to splurge. The Oscar campaign cost his producer and frequent collaborator Dhanush, more than the film itself.

The first thing the team of ‘Visaranai’ did was getting a PR who specialised in foreign language Oscar films. The PR should be from the big names that have a good winning track record. This is essential for the campaign.

The wine and dine is very important, an integral part of Los Angeles. Everything costs. A $15,000 for the promotions till shortlist, if it’s shortlisted another $5000, if it’s nominated another $5000. That is a lot of money.

According to Vetrimaran, putting ads on major magazines like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter had cost almost $32,000 each. “People started looking at the ads and thought, ‘Okay, these are guys with some money from India. Let’s give it some credibility. Let’s listen to what they have to say,” he said.

The process won’t end there. Vetrimaran said that the biggest lesson he learnt is that Academy voters prefer lighter, emotionally moving films which they can relate to. They may not be able to handle the harshness of the film even if the subject and plot of the movie is relevant.

The Oscar Campaign trail

It is not a hidden fact that Hollywood studios spend millions in their Oscar campaign trail.
Hollywood studios and production companies have hired strategists and consultants to run Oscar campaigns, spending millions of dollars to catch the attention of the right voters who could help push their films to victory.

In 2016, Variety estimated that studios spend around $3 million to $10 million to lobby Oscar voters. According to a 2017 New York story about modern Oscar campaigns, that figure can climb as high as $15 million. Consultants on the campaigns can charge tens of thousands of dollars for their services, with more in bonuses if their film wins.

In her Vox article,’How to Win an Oscar’, Alissa Wilkinson mentions about a prominent factor called ‘electability’. Studios pick their candidates based on “electability”and pour money into them, targeting Oscar voters.

Electability is based on a number of factors from whether the movie’s subject matter is likely to appeal to the Academy to the stars’ charisma both onscreen and off. But its most important element- and what every piece of an Oscar campaign is devoted to constructing- is the narrative of Oscar-worthiness around the film.

Although there were certain anomalies like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight ( was nominated for 10 oscars and won two, yet couldn’t make through the Best Picture), majority of films had to go through million dollar campaign trail to grab that golden statuette.

Hence, with no doubt, Lijo Jose Pellissery and his movie Jallikettu have to be a part of this costly campaign trail if the director wants to get noticed by the Academy. Is he ready for the costly affair, one has to wait and see.

There should also be a realisation that winning an Oscar is not an ultimate recognition for a great movie.

Now Dial M for Murder is getting a refresh. Terrence Winter and Alicia Vikander are teaming with MGM/UA Television to develop an anthology drama based on Frederick Knott’s play and subsequent feature film of the same name.

Alicia Vikander is executive producing the project through her Vikarious Film banner and is also in talk to potentially star in the series, which tells the suspense thriller story from the female perspective.

Dial M for Murder would be Vikander’s debut as a series regular on U.S television. Her feature credits include Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, The Man from U.N.C.L.E and Tomb Raider 2.

This is not be the first time that Dial M for Murder has been attempted for television.

Technically, the play first aired on BBC TV before it was performed in London’s West End. NBC aired a TV film with the original Broadway cast in 1958 and ABC aired a two-hour color version in 1968. Angie Dickinson and Christopher Plummer also starred in a 1981 feature.

The original film, starring Grace Kelly, Ray Milland and Robert Cummings, revolved around a husband who kills his wife after she has an affair with a crime fiction writer.

Last month Cruise was seen in the United Kingdom, jumping off a high-end bike from a ramp while flanked by drones to capture the action. The latest stunt shot in Norway seems to be a follow-up to the stunt shot in the UK, in the backdrop of some spectacular scenery in Norwegian fjords of Hurtigruten.

The stunt shows Tom Cruise jumping off a cliff on his motorcycle, free falling for a few feet and then opening up a parachute to break the fall. This death defying stunt has to be one of the most courageous action sequences to be performed by the actor.

Now, in one of her recent videos uploaded on the YouTube, Larson has claimed to have rejected the offer to act in Captain Marvel not once but twice. According to Larson, she had rejected the offer because of her anxiety to pull off such a challenging role on screen.

“Oh, I can’t do that. I have too much anxiety. That’s too much for me. I don’t think I could handle that. I’m too much of an introvert. That’s way too big of a thing for me,” said Larson on the video.

Larson revealed that the film’s production team later convinced her to do the role. The actress also added that she was convinced to see lots of females in the crew that includes Anna Boden and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

In the video, Larson also talked about the movies for which she attended the audition, but failed to fetch roles. The actress revealed that she had attended the audition for Marvel’s Iron Man 2 and Thor, but she did not get roles in these films made in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Some of the other movies for which Larson attended auditions were Avatar, Sucker Punch, Gulliver’s Travels, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, The Book of Eli, Get Him to the Greek, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Juno and Pitch Perfect. The picture book, published by Feiwel & Friends, centers on a young girl named Ella who is teased on her first day of school for loving sparkly things. Despite what others say, Ella’s dad encourages her to embrace who she is and wear her disco-ball shoes, shimmering backpack and glittery ribbons in her hair.
“Channing Tatum’s picture book debut is a charming ode to self-esteem and the love between a father and daughter,” Feiwel & Friends writes of the book.

Tatum dedicates the book to his daughter Everly, whom he shares with actress and ex-wife Jenna Dewan. The actor wrote, “To Everly, the most brilliant magical being that I have ever known. You are my greatest teacher.”

He also said that the book is also for all dads that might have a little girl. “This is also for all Dads that might have a little girl … Wear whatever, dance however, and be as magical as you can. Because I promise they will return the love.”

The upcoming picture book features illustrations by Kim Barnes and marks Tatum’s first venture in literature.

Director of the Warner Bros movie, Andy Muschietti, revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that Affleck was given the script last week and he has agreed to join the project.

His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity, because of the way he looks and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline, but he’s also very vulnerable. He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance, Muschietti said in an interview.

The director said that the 48-year-old actor’s Batman will have a strong emotional impact on the storyline. He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before.”

“I’m glad to be collaborating with someone who has been on both sides of the camera, too. He understands,” he added.

Apart from Affleck, veteran actor Michael Keaton, who played Batman/Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton’s “1989 Batman and its 1992 sequel Batman Returns, is also set to appear in The Flash.

Affleck made his debut as the Batman in 2016 with Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and then followed it up with “Justice League”.

He also made a cameo appearance as Batman in David Ayer’s 2016 film “Suicide Squad”.

The actor was planning to direct and star in a standalone Batman film for Warner Bros., but stepped down from helming in 2017, handing over the project to Matt Reeves.

He announced early last year that he will no more play the superhero, with the role going to Robert Pattinson.

Reeves’ The Batman was in the midst of shooting when the coronavirus lockdown hit, and production is set to resume later this year.

The decision followed the publication of a story from an online news portal called Buzzfeed, that detailed accusations of racism, unjust termination and an overall toxic work culture on July 16.

The Buzzfeed story reported on former employees’ allegations of inappropriate comments, retribution for bringing up concerns about problematic language, receiving pushback for taking time off work to attend funerals or take medical leave, and a “culture of fear” on the show.

Executive producers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner said in a statement that they strived to create an open, safe and inclusive work environment. They said that they were deeply saddened to learn that even one person had a negative experience and that this was not the mission Ellen has set for the people in the company.

They also said that the responsibility of Ellen show is completely on the producers and they will strive to do better in the future.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been a daytime talk staple since its debut in 2003. The show, which is in its 17th season, has garnered more than 171 Daytime Emmy Award nominations and 61 wins, including four for outstanding talk show and seven for outstanding talk show entertainment.

To this day, the talk show remains a top performer in its field, with roughly 2.5 million daily viewers.

The duo is in development on a sequel to the Chris Hemsworth project, which Joe wrote and the duo produced. They are also in postproduction on the Tom Holland crime drama Cherry.

The Russos’ AGBO is producing, and the script was written by Joe Russo, with consultation by Christopher Markus and Stephen Mcfeely, who scripted the Russo-directed Captain America and Avengers films.

The Pirates of the Caribbean are getting ready to set sail in a whole new direction, with Australian actress Margot Robbie starring in a new version of one of Disney’s biggest film franchises.

Robbie, the star of Birds of Prey and I, Tonya, is to head a female-driven Pirates movie which is in the early stages of development. It marks the latest bid by Hollywood to re-imagine classic movies by casting women in the lead roles, including the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters starring Melissa McCarthy and 2018 comedy heist Ocean’s 8 that starred Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett.

No plot details were revealed but the story is being written by Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson and produced by longtime Pirates filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer.

The movie was a separate project from the already announced reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean. Based on a ride at Disney’s theme parks, the five Pirates of the Caribbean movies, starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, have taken some 4.5 billion dollars at the global box office since 2003.

The producers of Animated TV comedy ‘The Simpsons’ have announced that they will no longer use white actors to voice characters of colour.

The Simpsons has received criticism for years for having Hank Azaria voice for the role of Indian character Apu. In January , Azaria said that he is stepping down from the role after it has been hugely criticized for the negative portrayal of Indian-Americans. Mr Azaria, was very upset as the portrayal of character Apu reinforced racial stereotypes. He also voiced the Simpsons characters of Black police officer Lou.

This comes at a time when the whole world is in mass protest over the killing of George Floyd, a black man who died while in US police custody. His death has led to cancellation of many controversial portrayals of people of colour in the entertainment industry.

The Simpsons is the longest-running show on American television, going for 30 years, and is syndicated in more than 100 countries.
