India recorded 490 deaths in the last 24 hours raising the death toll to 1,26,611.

The total number of active cases stands at 5,09,673. Total recovered cases are at 79,17,373 with 48,405 new discharges in the last 24 hours.

Keeping up with the trend of single-day COVID-19 recoveries outnumbering daily new cases, on November 8, 49,082 patients recuperated from the disease in a day, the Union Health Ministry said.

As the national case rise decreases, the onset of winter and pollution left Delhi grappling with a third wave of coronavirus- it’s most severe yet.

The global coronavirus caseload has breached the 50 million cases mark, according to the latest updates by Johns Hopkins University on November 9 (local time).

The exact number of COVID-19 cases worldwide stands at 50,325,072 while the number of fatalities due to the disease worldwide stands at 1,255,489.

The United States became the first nation worldwide since the pandemic began to surpass 10 million coronavirus infections, according to a Reuters tally on Sunday, as the third wave of the COVID-19 virus surges across the nation.

Active COVID-19 cases in India drop below 6 lakh with the country adding less than 50,000 fresh infections for five straight days.

With India reporting 48,648 cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus cases rose to 80.88 lakh on Friday. The country has been recording less than 50,000 infections for the last five days and the active cases have fallen below the six lakh mark, to a level seen in the first week of August. Also, the total number of fatalities has reached 1.21 lakh, 5,94,386 are active cases and 73,73,375 people have recovered.

The slower pace of daily infections and an improved recovery rate have led to a fairly drastic decline in active cases.

The Maharashtra government on Thursday extended the lockdown till November 30 without allowing any new activities.

Union Health Ministry has said, “India has exponentially scaled up its testing capacity from one in January to more than 10.65 cr at present. The very high testing has resulted in a continuously falling positivity rate. It is 7.54% presently.”

A total number of 10,77,28,088 samples were tested for COVID-19 on October 29. Of these, 11,64,648 samples were tested on Thursday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Globally, over 44 million people have been infected worldwide till now. More than one million have succumbed to the virus. The United States continues to be the worst-affected followed by India and Brazil.

The global coronavirus death toll is nearing the 10 lakh-mark while the total number of cases has crossed 3.2 crore as US leads the charts with over 70 lakh coronavirus cases. India has recorded over 59 lakh coronavirus cases so far with the death toll going past 93,000.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in the country crossed the 59-lakh mark to reach 59, 03,933. Also, as many as 1,089 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 93,379. At present, India has 9,60,969 active cases, while 48,49,585 people have been treated and discharged, the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said 7,02,69,975 samples have been tested up to September 25 for COVID-19. Of these, 13,41,535 samples were tested on September 25.

In the clinical trials, a single dose of Johnson & Johnson’s experimental Covid-19 vaccine has produced a strong immune response against the novel coronavirus. The results were seen in an early-to-mid stage clinical trial of the potential coronavirus vaccine being developed by Johnson & Johnson. The vaccine, called Ad26.COV2.S, was equally well-tolerated at two different doses. A single shot, versus a rival two-dose approach being tested by Moderna Inc and Pfizer Inc, could simplify distribution of the vaccine

Meanwhile, China has said it will make over 1 billion doses of coronavirus vaccine in a year after the Chinese government ramped up production. China’s vaccine production capacity will go up to 610 million doses by the end of this year.

Globally, as many as 32,475,585 people have been infected while 987,754 have lost their lives. Also, 22,377,620 people have recovered so far. India continues to remain the second worst-hit country after the United States, but topped the global chart in terms of virus recoveries.

India reported 83,809 new infections in the last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 tally beyond the 49-lakh mark.

The pandemic claimed 1054 lives in the last 24 hours which pushed the death toll over 80,000.
The country now has 9.90 lakh active cases. A total 38.59 lakh patients in the country have recovered from Covid-19.

However the sliver lining is the declining fatality, which currently stands at 1.64 percent. According to the health ministry, the case fatality rate (CFR) is one of the lowest in the world and efforts are on to further reduce it to less than one percent.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state by the pandemic, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said India has managed the coronavirus situation well and that the lockdown has helped prevent nearly 29 lakh cases.

At present, India’s total number of infections is only behind the United States, which still accounts for the highest number of cases and deaths.
